About the Job
Seeking a Controls Engineer to work on a long term contract role with a leading construction equipment company, in Alpharetta, GA.
Position's Contributions to Work Group:
• Design, test, and commission custom switchgear and generator control systems
Typical task breakdown:
• Execute and support the design, test, manufacture, and commissioning of low and medium-voltage switchgear that controls multiple generators parallel to one or more utility sources
• Provide direction to CAD designers to create wiring and assembly drawings for generator paralleling switchgear controls
• Interact with internal and external customers, accomplishing project milestones
• Create a bill of materials for generator paralleling switchgear controls in the ERP system
• Create PLC programs for control of generator paralleling switchgear
• Execute multiple projects simultaneously
Interaction with team:
• Work alongside a team of 5-8 engineers. Report to the Engineering Manager.
Education & Experience Required:
• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Electrical Engineering preferred
• 5-7 year's experience required.
• Internships will be considered
• Willing to take a 2-year degree with 7+ years of experience
• Willing to take Maters with 3+ years of experience
Technical Skills (Required)
• Ability to create PLC programs using one of the IEC 61131 PLC Programming languages i.e. Ladder Logic, Function Block Diagram, Structured Text, or any other PLC programming language
• Design, test, and commission control systems. i.e. systems with different PLC controllers in the same system, experience interfacing, designing controls with different manufacturers
• Develop control software utilizing various PLC platforms. Expert knowledge of at least one of the following PLC platforms. Schneider Momentum, M340, M580, AB Control, Compact Logix, Woodward MSLC, DSLC, Easy Gen, and LS5 Architecture
• Interpret customer specifications and drawings, and apply them to the design platform while considering industry regulations and requirements
• Customize PLC software and hardware templates

• Understand in detail the applicable NEC, UL 508, UL 891, UL 1558, UL MV, CSA 22-2, and ANSI requirements and their applications in switchgear controls
• Understand protective relays, their functions associated with Generators, and Utility protection applications

• Understand the design philosophy, operation, and control of complex PLC-based systems
• Verbal and written communication, problem-solving, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
• Expert ability to work independently and manage one's time.
• Expert leadership and mentoring skills necessary to provide support and constructive performance feedback.
