About the Job
The Corporate Controller will lead the accounting and financial reporting functions for our client, who operates in the insurance industry. This role is critical in ensuring the integrity of financial statements, compliance with GAAP, regulatory requirements, and internal controls. The Corporate Controller will collaborate closely with senior management, providing financial insights that drive strategic decision-making and support the company's growth objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Reporting & Compliance:
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP and statutory accounting principles.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting requirements, including state insurance departments, NAIC, and other relevant bodies.
- Manage the preparation of board and management financial reports, highlighting key financial metrics, variances, and trends.
- Accounting Operations:
- Lead the accounting department, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll functions.
- Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Direct month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, ensuring completeness and accuracy of financial data.
- Audit & Internal Controls:
- Serve as the primary contact for external auditors during annual audits, ensuring a smooth and timely audit process.
- Oversee internal audit processes and implement corrective actions as needed to enhance financial controls.
- Ensure compliance with SOX and other regulatory requirements, enhancing internal controls over financial reporting.
- Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Partner with FP&A teams to provide accurate financial projections, budgets, and forecasts that align with company objectives.
- Analyze financial results against budget and forecasts, providing actionable insights to senior leadership.
- Tax Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations, working closely with external tax advisors.
- Manage the preparation of tax returns, premium taxes, and other regulatory filings related to insurance operations.
- Team Leadership & Development:
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.
- Promote collaboration across departments, supporting cross-functional initiatives and company-wide projects.
- Education & Certification:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA designation required.
- MBA or advanced degree in finance or accounting preferred.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 5 years in a leadership role within the insurance industry (property and casualty preferred).
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and insurance-specific financial regulations.
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems; proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial modeling.
- Skills & Competencies:
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong leadership skills with a proven ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of translating complex financial data into actionable insights for stakeholders.

- the individual’s skill sets, experience and training;

With that said, as required by local law, Vaco believes that the following salary range referenced above reasonably estimates the base compensation for an individual hired into this position in geographies that require salary range disclosure. The individual may also be eligible for discretionary bonuses.
