We are on the hunt for a passionate, detail-oriented, and experienced Controller to join our dynamic team in the Engineering industry. This position is a critical part of our financial leadership team and is responsible for managing all aspects of our company's accounting operations. The successful candidate will be involved in high-level operational initiatives and strategies. They will be a hands-on and participative manager and will lead and develop an internal team to support the following areas: finance, business planning and budgeting, human resources, administration, and IT.
Responsibilities:
As a Controller, you will play a crucial role in the financial management of our organization. Your key responsibilities will include:
1. Overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintaining internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
3. Regularly producing financial reports, including weekly, monthly, and annual reports, financial statements, cash flow projections, and forecasts.
4. Coordinating all audit activities and manage relationships with external auditors.
5. Collaborating with the leadership team to develop and implement financial strategies across the organization.
6. Evaluating and managing risk, perform internal audits, and oversee the financial systems.
7. Implementing, monitoring, and maintaining financial accounting systems for cash management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, credit control, and petty cash.
8. Reviewing all month-end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and corporate/overhead cost allocation.
9. Enhancing and implementing financial and accounting systems, processes, tools, and control systems.
10. Hiring, training, and retaining skilled accounting and finance staff.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for the Controller position should possess the following qualifications:
1. A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business Administration. A Master’s degree or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification will be highly desirable.
2. At least five years of accounting experience, preferably in the Engineering industry, with at least two years in a leadership role.
3. Strong knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
4. Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems and federal and state financial regulations.
5. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections.
6. Working knowledge of short and long-term budgeting and forecasting, rolling budgets, and product-line profitability analysis.
7. Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners.
8. Ability to translate financial concepts and effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising colleagues who do not necessarily have finance backgrounds.
9. Advanced proficiency in MS Office and accounting software.
10. Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage and develop a high-performing team.
