Role Description
The Accountant Controller is responsible for managing the financial reports and oversees the accounting and inventory departments. The role serves as a senior management position reporting to the President. The manager is responsible for tracking the day-to-day expenses and oversees the daily accounting operations of a distribution company serving the construction industry. This includes supporting accounts payable and accounts receivable, as well as managing bookkeeping and taxes to ensure transactions are recorded accurately. He/she provides transparent financial tracking to monitor business’ performance. The company is currently implementing an ERP system, Epicor’s Prophet21, and thus we require prior experience working with an ERP and/or implementing one. He/she will lead the ERP implementation and will work with Epicor and the application consultant to effectively transition the company to adopt the new software.
The ideal candidate will be involved with preparing financial reports and statements, bank reconciliations, and conducting inventory audits. Moreover, the candidate must have strong interpersonal skills and possess a strong business acumen.
Responsibilities
· Implement and oversee the adoption of an ERP system, Epicor’s Prophet21.
· Manage the work of accounting and inventory team members, supporting and covering, as needed.
· Maintain accounting records, sales tax, and income tax reports for the CPA and relevant agencies.
· Reconcile accounts to close the books monthly and generate financial reports.
· Present monthly financial statements to the President, analyzing and forecasting the financial position.
· Track and optimize cash flow to proactively control the company’s receivables.
· Form relationships with customers, vendors, banks, Dunn & Bradstreet to ensure that terms and risk are managed.
· Implement efficient processes for A/R, A/P, G/L and inventory.
· Ensure active projects have correctly filed liens for payment protection.
· Reconcile and file multi-state sales tax payments through Avalara.
· Protect privacy by keeping financial information confidential.
· Perform other accounting and management related duties as needed.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance or related field required.
· 10+ years of progressive accounting experience as a Senior Accountant or Accountant Controller required.
· ERP implementation experience, specifically Epicor’s Prophet 21 (P21.)
· Experience working in the distribution or construction industry.
· Strong computer aptitude with strength in optimized accounting software.
· Advanced skill level with MS Excel and other Office products.
· Strong work ethics, initiative-taking, management, and leadership ability.
· Critical thinking, problem solving & decision-making skills.
· Strong organization skills.
· Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as interpersonal ability to form relationships.
· Analytical skills with proven attention to detail and accuracy of data reporting.
