- The salary range for this position is: $110,000 to $140,000 based upon experience.
The impact of this role
The Controller is vital to the success of AMA's financial performance. The Controller is responsible for all accounting functions at the AMA, including month-end close, cash management, compliance, tax, and financial systems. The Controller oversees the accounting team to ensure these responsibilities are carried out accurately and efficiently. The Controller also assists the COO with financial planning & analysis, financial reporting, and governance.
What you'll be doing
General Accounting
- Oversee Month-end close process
- Establish or revise accounting policies and internal controls as needed
- Review daily/weekly cash flow reporting
- Ensure a smooth, efficient, and accurate audits
Compliance
- Oversee AMA's business registrations in individual states and address any material state and local tax liabilities.
- Serve as resident expert in non-profit accounting and tax, staying on top of latest accounting regulations that impact AMA
Systems
- Oversee accounting technology: gather requirements, evaluate and implement new systems to improve accuracy and efficiency.
- Serve as system admin and subject matter expert for Sage Intacct and other system integrations within the AMA
Management
- Lead, direct, and manage accounting team to achieve department and organizational goals
Financial Planning & Analysis
- Perform ad hoc analysis to aid understanding of AMA's financial performance
- Participate in quarterly Audit & Finance Committee meetings, interact with AMA Board and other Subcommittees as needed.
What you bring to the table
- CPA designation
- Five to ten years' progressive experience in Accounting positions, and at least two years in a managerial position.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting from four-year college or university or equivalent work experience
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
- Experience with multiple accounting platforms and tools (e.g. expense reporting, fixed assets, etc.).
- A passion for efficiency, accuracy, and continuous improvement
- Ability to travel to Chicago, IL for meetings 2-3 times per year
What you may also have
- Non-profit or professional association industry experience
- Experience with systems AMA uses: Sage Intacct, Salesforce, Concur, Mineral Tree (AP automation), Sigma (BI platform)
- Experience within a multi-state environment
