Position Overview
Ledgent Finance & Accounting's client is actively seeking a skilled and experienced Controller to join their well-established and growing family office specializing in property management and real estate investments. Based in California, this position offers a dynamic and collaborative work environment where professional growth is encouraged. The Controller will play a crucial role in overseeing the financial operations of a diverse real estate portfolio, working closely with leadership to ensure strategic decision-making and smooth financial operations.
Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of month-end and year-end closing processes, ensuring accurate financial reporting across multiple entities.
- Manage job costing for property management projects, including tracking expenses and ensuring proper allocation across entities.
- Prepare detailed financial reports, including balance sheets, P&L statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal policies.
- Oversee the financials for the real estate portfolio, including leasing, tenant accounts, operating expenses, and capital expenditures.
- Supervise a team of three accounting professionals, providing guidance, mentorship, and support in daily operations.
- Collaborate directly with the CFO and Facilities and Leasing Manager to provide accurate financial data and insights for decision-making.
- Financial reporting and job costing, ensuring efficient and accurate system usage for all financial processes.
- Manage the financials of multiple entities within the family office, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and timeliness of reporting.
Qualifications
- Significant experience in property management and real estate accounting.
- Experience in job costing within the construction or engineering industry, with the ability to track costs and allocate them properly across projects.
- Proficiency with Sage 300 (Timberline) or Yardi software is required.
- Experience managing a small team and the ability to provide direction and support.
- In-depth understanding of accounting principles, including month-end and year-end close processes, financial reporting, and budgeting.
- Experience working with multiple entities, particularly in a real estate or property management context, is preferred.

Required Work Hours
First shift, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM, Monday - Friday.
Additional Details
This job is a supervisory position.
Salary: $130,000 - $140,000 per year
