KBW Financial Staffing and Recruiting has partnered with a rapidly growing, real estate company seeking to hire a Controller to join their finance team near Portland, ME.
Reporting to the C Suite leadership team, this role will oversee all aspects of the company’s accounting operations, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective cash management, and compliance with US GAAP. The Controller will play a key role in shaping financial strategy and supporting the organization's growth.

Key Responsibilities for the Controller:
- Accounting Operations: Oversee the general ledger and accounting functions, ensuring adherence to GAAP standards and regulatory requirements, while maintaining accurate financial records.
- Financial Reporting: Provide timely and accurate financial reports that guide decision-making across the organization.
- Financial Controls: Develop, implement, and maintain robust financial controls and guidelines to protect the company’s assets and ensure accurate reporting.
- Cash Management: Manage the company’s cash flow, including forecasting and implementing strong cash control policies.
- Operational Strategy: Contribute to the development of both short- and long-term operational strategies to support the company’s growth.
- Process improvements: Document and maintain a system of accounting policies and procedures.
- Design and manage the accounting department's organizational structure to meet departmental goals.
- Lead and manage the accounting team, fostering a positive work environment and supporting professional growth
- Manage daily operations within the accounting department, including accounts payable, cash management, banking, treasury, and payroll functions.
- Maintain the company’s chart of accounts and an organized accounting filing system.
- Coordinate the preparation of the company’s annual report.
- Coordinate with external auditors to ensure timely and accurate annual audits.
- Monitor debt levels and ensure compliance with debt covenants.
- Oversee compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements, including tax filings.
- Manage the administration and renewal of business insurance policies.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5+ years of progressive experience in accounting or operational finance roles.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience. CPA is required or relevent Real Estate accounting experience
- Ability to work independently with a strong drive for results.
- Experience working within real estate is highly preferred but not required
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and departments.
- Familiarity with the healthcare industry is preferred but not required
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to handle multiple high-priority tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with mid to large size ERP systems (Oracle, SAP, Netsuite, etc.)
Salary: $100,000-$130,000 + Competitive Benefits
