ENERGY SYSTEMS GROUP® is seeking a Controller to become a key contributor for a rapidly growing team. This position is onsite at our Corporate Office in Newburgh, Indiana.
The Controller is responsible for providing leadership strategy and operational direction to ESG’s accounting team. Manages the day-to-day functions of the department, including general accounting, project accounting, cash management, audit, tax, and related activities and record keeping. Develops, establishes and administers policies and procedures pertaining to financial matters. Manages the monthly close process and the preparation of GAAP financial statements. Evaluates operating results in terms of costs, revenues, budgets and policies of operation. Supervises the staffing, scheduling, training and professional development of department members. The Controller will direct and manage employees who process accounts payable, accounts receivable, project accounting and general ledger transactions for all ESG entities.
The essential functions of the position include:
- Directs accounting close processes monthly, quarterly, and annually, following internal control procedures to ensure proper accounting and to protect the company’s assets
- Performs and supports general ledger analytics and variance analysis
- Manages key individuals responsible for ensuring accurate and timely compliance and filing of state and local property returns, sales & use tax returns, and all other government data requests
- Develops leaders through performance reviews and routine discussions regarding competencies, value alignment, and results achieved
- Oversees the Project Accounting function, including quarterly estimate revisions, to ensure that revenue recognition and other GAAP reporting requirements are followed
- Coordinates and directs the annual financial audit with external auditors, including assembly of requested data and ensuring staff understands responsibilities relative to supporting the audit
- Interfaces with ESG’s parent company, Oaktree Capital Management, regarding monthly, quarterly, and annual reporting
- Ensures compliance with all SOX controls related to the accounting function and directs quarterly controls testing
- Works with external accounting firm to file income tax returns and record tax transactions in the company’s books
- Performs research on new accounting pronouncements and prepares analyses of impact to ESG
- Assists with the company’s business insurance renewal process and serves as point of contact for all insurance audits
- Supervises fixed asset reporting and assists as needed in procurement decisions
- Participates in process improvement groups and assists on special projects as opportunities arise
- Works closely with ERP team members to ensure technology solutions incorporate appropriate accounting processes and controls
Your background includes:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration, or Finance
- Certified Public Accountant (active license) highly preferred
- Ten or more years (10+) of relevant accounting/finance experience managing finance and accounting staff and programs (preferably for a medium to large size organization)
A bonus to have:
