Full job description
Job Summary:
The Controller is responsible for overall accounting operation, including month-end close and financial reporting, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
Principal Responsibilities:
Management
Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
Maintain financial staff by recruiting, training, appraising, and coaching employees.
Maintain a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
Manage the Accounts Payable Process
Manage the Accounts Receivable and Cash applications process
Oversee collection efforts to minimize risk and improve KPI's of % AR past due and DSO
Ensure that periodic account reconciliations are completed.
Ensure that required debt payments are made on a timely basis
Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts
Maintain an orderly accounting filing system
Maintain a system of controls over accounting transactions
Reporting
Manage month end closings including analysis of results
Issue timely and complete financial statements
Ensure appropriate support of all amounts contained in plant balance sheet; always maintain an “audit ready” balance sheet.
Work with rest of management team to prepare weekly estimates, monthly forecasts, and annual budgets.
Weekly cash requirements forecasting
Monthly bank covenant reporting
Compliance
Work with both bank and financial auditors to provide timely responses to requested information.
Coordinate filings and payments of fees and taxes to local, state, and federal government entities.
Desired Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration
10+ years of progressively responsible experience
Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations preferred.
Computer literate in MS Office including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (intermediate Excel skills including formulas, pivot tables).
Experience with Sage 500 (formerly MAS 500) a plus
Work autonomously and can effectively handle simultaneous projects in a results-driven, deadline-oriented environment.
Working Conditions: Primarily an office environment with some exposure to a manufacturing environment. Limited travel.
Supervises: Corporate Accounting, General Ledger, AP, and AR
