Robbins Recruiting has partnered with a design and installation firm out of Miami that is seeking a Controller for one of their emerging business segments.
Position Summary: Responsible for the integrity and veracity of the financial transactions of the company, preparing financial statements that are produced on time and representing accurate data.
Essential Functions:
· Cashflow management: Includes forecasting cash flow needs and alerting upper management for cash flow deficiencies.
· Act as audit liaison: Meet with external audit staff, being receptive to audit findings, implementing reporting changes, and communicating to upper management or the board of directors the outcomes of the audit.
· Internal controls management: Gather feedback from audit personnel, work with managers on designing proper control functions, and gathering data on the effectiveness of the internal control.
· Invoice approval: Ultimate approval of higher threshold, as determined by senior management, for purchase orders and invoices.
· Budget preparation: Prepares the annual budget and corresponding quarterly reviews and updates.
· Financial risk: Aware of current processes, understanding company weaknesses, engaging employees with training, and openly communicating areas of opportunity to better safeguard assets.
· Financial compliance: Understands external reporting requirements, ensures proper resources are on hand to meet those requirements and oversees the final product being delivered to external parties.
· Financial reporting: Knowledgeable of recent changes to financial reporting practices, oversees a staff that directly contributes to the financial statement preparation process, and certifies that the financial statements have been accurately prepared.
· Identify cost savings. Understand where operational efficiencies lie, how staff can be best utilized, what reporting functions are being duplicated, and what resources the finance department really needs.
· Mentor financial staff. A leader to the controller's direct reports by involving them in higher-level discussions.
Required Education & Experience:
· Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field with relevant work experience
· Ability to work independently in a fast environment and as part of a team
· Strong problem-solving skills and work ethics
· Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
Required Skills, Knowledge & Competencies:
· Deep knowledge of USGAAP reporting requirements mandatory.
· At least 5 years of experience as a Controller in the retail industry, or equivalent.
· Deep understanding of sales and use taxes legislation.
· Advanced spreadsheet skills are required.
· Advanced analytical, organization, and interpersonal skills.
