JOB SUMMARY:
The Controller is responsible for managing the company's accounting activities, including overseeing the accounting functions, managing budgets, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. This role involves developing and implementing financial systems, managing accounting staff, and maintaining relationships with external financial institutions. The Controller will play a critical role in providing financial insights to support the organization's operations
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Financial Records & Systems Management:
- Maintains accurate and complete financial records for the company.
- Ensure the integrity of the accounting software.
- Plan, develop, and implement financial systems to monitor and provide insights into business operations.
- Oversees motivate, and train the accounting staff.
Accounts Payable, Receivable, & Payroll Oversight:
- Oversee the Accounts Receivable Department
- Ensure the accurate and timely processing of payments, expense reports, and cash control.
- Manage aging components, including billings, cash receipts applications, and collections.
- Handle billings, draws, WIP schedules, lien releases, and collections.
Financial Reporting:
- Prepares timely financial statements and summary financial information.
- Analyzes and interprets financial data to assess company performance.
- Develops top-level reports, including summary income statements, key benchmarks, sales forecasting.
Budget Management:
- Lead development of the annual operating budget and compile the final approved budget.
- Supports senior managers in budget management, identifying potential problems, and proposing solutions.
Policy Development:
- Develop and implement management policies for financial accounting functions.
- Create a policies and procedure manual for the accounting department.
External Relations:
Negotiate and manage audit/compilation work with outside CPA firms.
Act as a liaison on audit, financial, and tax issues.
Maintain relationship with external financial institutions, bankers and vendors.
Tax Compliance & Payroll Management:
- Ensure the accurate and timely completion of all tax payments.
- Oversee payroll functions for the company.
Additional Duties:
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications and Education:
- Bachelor's Degree Degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA preferred but not required
- 10+ years of hands-on financial accounting experience, Construction industry preferred.
- Timberline/Sage experience
- Computer Systems conversion experience
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Supervise the A/P Specialist, A/R Specialist, Accounting Clerk, Payroll Analyst.
Additional:
- Detail-oriented with strong leadership skills.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills, including ability to prioritize work effectively.
- Ability to work and plan collaboratively and effectively with individuals from diverse background.
