The Controller supports the organization's accounting functions including cost, payables, and reporting. He/She contributes to the development and maintenance of financial reporting, planning and budgeting systems. The Controller oversees the preparation of periodic reporting and required legal filings while ensuring all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the organization. He/She trains accounting team members and leads auditing practices. The Controller provides input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility, as well as the development of the budget. This is an onsite role located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. We work 5 days per week in-office.
Job Responsibilities
Financial Oversight:
- Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements
- Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures
- Coordinate all audit activity and monthly balance sheet reconciliation
- Oversee all financial, project/program accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials
Strategic Financial Planning:
- Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership Assist leadership in the annual long-range plan / budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate
- Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the leadership; continuously collaborate to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations
Process Improvement:
- Design and implement scalable financial systems, processes, and internal controls to support hyper-growth
- Drive automation and efficiencies in financial operations
Compliance & Risk Management:
- Support the VP of Finance in engaging the board’s audit and finance committees around issues and trends in financial operating models and delivery
- Manage and track the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines
Team Leadership:
- Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment
Job Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant degree program is required; CPA and/or MBA preferred
- 5 years of relevant finance experience required
- 3 years of experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, payroll, and accounting for investments
- Must be technologically savvy with advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software
- Must be committed to mentoring, training, and retaining a team; the foresight and ability to delegate accordingly
- Must possess keen analytic, organization and problem-solving skills which allows for strategic data interpretation versus. simple reporting
- Must have strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management
- Must have the ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers
Compensation: Salary Performance-Based Bonus, Comprehensive Benefits Package. Final compensation will be determined based on experience and skills and may vary from the range listed above.
