Our client, a construction company based in West Palm Beach. They are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Controller to join their construction company.
Salary/Hourly Rate:
$125,000
Position Overview:
The Controller will oversee all aspects of financial management, reporting directly to Executive Team. The ideal Controller candidate will have extensive knowledge of construction accounting principles, strong leadership abilities, and a proven track record of driving financial performance in the construction industry.
Responsibilities of the Controller:
- Lead the financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes for the construction company, ensuring accuracy and alignment with organizational objectives
- Manage day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger functions
- Develop and implement internal controls, policies, and procedures to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements
- Oversee project accounting activities, including cost tracking, revenue recognition, and job costing analysis
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, variance reports, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to monitor project profitability and financial health
- Coordinate with project managers and executives to review project budgets, assess financial risks, and develop mitigation strategies
- Manage cash flow, banking relationships, and financing activities to optimize liquidity and minimize borrowing costs
- Lead the annual audit process, liaising with external auditors and ensuring timely completion of audit deliverables
- Provide strategic financial guidance to senior management, identifying opportunities for cost savings, revenue growth, and operational efficiency improvements
- Mentor and develop finance and accounting staff, fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous learning
Qualifications for the Controller:
- Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in accounting and financial management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role within the construction industry
- Thorough understanding of construction accounting principles, including revenue recognition methods, work-in-progress (WIP) accounting, and percentage of completion (POC) accounting
- Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Sage, Viewpoint, Procore) and Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Excel skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make strategic recommendations
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and communicate financial information to non-financial stakeholders
- Proven leadership and management capabilities, with a track record of building and developing high-performing teams
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy and integrity in financial reporting and analysis
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt quickly to changing priorities and deadlines
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements and compliance standards relevant to the construction industry, including GAAP, IFRS, and industry-specific regulations
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is required
- CPA or CMA designation is preferred
