Position Overview: The Controller will oversee the company's accounting functions, including financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, and internal controls. This role requires a detail-oriented and strategic leader who can manage all accounting operations while also providing insights into long-term financial planning and growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, financial systems, and team leadership, as well as a commitment to driving operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee and manage all accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgets, audits, forecasts and financial reporting.
- Prepare and present accurate and timely monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
- Lead the month-end and year-end close processes, ensuring financial records are complete and accurate.
- Develop and maintain financial controls, policies, and procedures to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial reporting.
- Prepare and manage the company's annual budget and quarterly forecasts, ensuring alignment with business goals.
- Conduct detailed financial analysis, including variance analysis, and provide actionable insights to senior management.
- Coordinate the preparation of tax filings and ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Support external audits and regulatory reporting requirements, including tax filings and compliance reviews.
- Assist in the development and implementation of financial systems and processes to improve operational efficiency and scalability.
- Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team to build a high-performing department.
- Provide strategic recommendations to the CFO and senior management team regarding financial performance and opportunities for cost savings or growth.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
7+ years of progressive experience in accounting and finance of nonprofits, with at least 3 years in a leadership or management role.
Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and accounting principles.
Proven experience with financial systems, accounting software and Microsoft Excel.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across departments.
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on strategic financial planning.
Experience with budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling.
Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
Experience managing audits, tax filings, and compliance issues.
Experience with Yardi software desireable.
