About the Job
Quality Degree Heating and Air Conditioning is on track for exciting growth, aiming to hit $25M or more in annual revenue by 2025. To help us achieve this goal, we are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in residential construction, particularly in HVAC, plumbing, or electrical industries. Only candidates with this relevant experience will be considered.
Reporting directly to the President, the Controller will play a critical role in driving our financial strategies and supporting our growth. Key responsibilities include overseeing month-end and year-end closing procedures with financial expertise, developing and maintaining comprehensive budgets, forecasts, and financial models to guide strategic decision-making, and creating and managing the annual budget with quarterly adjustments to align with financial goals and business performance.
The Controller will also evaluate cost structures, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and implement strategies to improve financial efficiency. Expertise in job costing is essential, including the ability to accurately track and analyze project costs to ensure profitability and operational success in residential HVAC services.

Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data.
- Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a collaborative and results-driven work environment.
- Drive month-end and year-end closing procedures with financial expertise.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive budgets, forecasts, and financial models to support the strategic decision-making process.
- Create and oversee the annual budget, including strategic forecasting, with quarterly adjustments to ensure alignment with financial goals and business performance.
- Evaluate cost structures, identify opportunities for cost reduction, and implement strategies to enhance financial efficiency.
- Demonstrated expertise in job costing, including accurately tracking and analyzing project costs to ensure profitability and efficiency for residential HVAC services.
- Engage with cross-functional teams and communicate financial insights to support the growth and success of the residential HVAC company.
- Identify and advocate for refinements in accounting systems and procedures.
- Shape the company culture by embodying shared values, emphasizing ethics and integrity.
- Over two (2) years of experience in one of the following residential industries: HVAC, plumbing, electrical, garage doors, or a related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
- Demonstrated experience as a Financial Controller or Chief Financial Officer.
- Ability to inspire confidence and serve as a trusted right-hand to the President of the company.
- GAAP Expertise: In-depth understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Excel Mastery: Advanced MS Excel skills.
- Hands-on experience with software like Sage Intacct and/or QuickBooks.
- Strong quantitative and qualitative financial analysis skills.
