Job Details
The Controller is the top leader in the accounting and finance aspects of our business. The ideal candidate will be a licensed CPA with a deep understanding of healthcare finance, accounting principles, and the unique financial dynamics within the healthcare industry. As Controller, you will play a key role in managing all aspects of financial reporting, accounting, and compliance for our portfolio of medical practices, ensuring efficient operations and adherence to regulations in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Accounting:
- Oversee the preparation and timely filing of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Develop and maintain internal financial controls and processes to ensure accuracy, integrity, and compliance with healthcare regulations.
Budgeting & Forecasting:
- Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes for the medical practices under management, working closely with operational teams to align financial goals and performance.
- Prepare variance analysis and financial performance reports to track progress against budget and identify areas for improvement.
Revenue Cycle Management:
- Work closely with the revenue cycle management team to ensure proper recording of revenue, including insurance reimbursements, patient payments, and other sources of income.
- Monitor accounts receivable aging and assist in collections strategies, ensuring timely cash flow.
Cash Management:
- Oversee cash management processes, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and making recommendations for capital management.
- Monitor and report on cash flow performance, highlighting any concerns and implementing corrective actions as necessary.
Compliance & Audits:
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare-specific regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute), as well as general financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Lead internal and external audits, working with auditors to ensure the timely completion of audits and responding to any audit findings.
Cost Control & Operational Efficiency:
- Implement cost control measures to improve the profitability of the practices.
- Identify areas for cost savings and efficiency improvements across the organization and work with practice managers to implement corrective actions.
Private Equity Reporting & Liaison:
- Prepare detailed financial reports and presentations for the private equity stakeholders, ensuring transparency and alignment with their investment goals.
- Work with private equity sponsors to provide necessary financial insights and respond to ad-hoc requests.
Team Leadership & Development:
- Manage a team of accountants and finance professionals, providing coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, accuracy, and accountability within the finance team.
Qualifications:
- CPA certification is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or Master’s in Finance preferred.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with at least 3 years in a healthcare-related industry (preferably medical practice management or healthcare services).
- Deep understanding of healthcare finance and accounting principles, including experience with healthcare reimbursement models and revenue cycle management.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting standards, and healthcare compliance regulations (e.g., HIPAA, Stark Law, Anti-Kickback Statute).
- Prior experience in a private equity-owned company or working with private equity investors is highly preferred.
- Proficient in accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage) and ERP systems; experience with healthcare-specific financial systems is a plus.
- Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact with internal teams, external auditors, and private equity stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines consistently.
