Sparks Group has partnered with a renowned government transportation contractor to seek a highly skilled and results-oriented Controller. The Controller oversees and directs all aspects of the organization's accounting and financial reporting functions, encompassing Payroll, Fixed Assets, Financial Analysis, and General Accounting. This role collaborates closely with the CFO, banks, and funding partners to develop and implement strategies that align with short-term and long-term financial objectives and ensure optimal cash flow management. Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, Fixed Assets, Financial Analysis, and General Accounting.
- Direct the activities of the Accounting team, including Assistant Controller, Accounts Payable/Receivable staff, and Financial Analysts.
- Prepare and analyze financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
- Conduct variance analysis and provide insightful financial interpretations to management.
- Establish and maintain accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and funding partner requirements.
- Collaborate with senior management on strategic financial planning and decision-making and participate in the budgeting and forecasting process.
- Supervise, mentor, and develop the Accounting team, while fostering a positive and high-performing work environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration required.
- Master's degree in Business Administration and Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or Certified Management Accountant (CMA) preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years of supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of GAAP, with specific expertise in enterprise fund accounting, general ledger, grants accounting, fixed assets accounting, and financial reporting.
- Proficiency in using accounting software, including PeopleSoft, nVision, ECHO system, and Citrix.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Meticulous attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
