Job Summary: Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Controller to oversee all financial aspects of their organization. This role is critical in managing financial procedures, preparing comprehensive financial reports, monitoring cash flow, and ensuring compliance with accounting regulations. The CFO/Controller will play a key role in shaping the financial strategies that will support the organization’s growth across multiple industry verticals, including retail, residential and commercial construction, logistics, real estate, and development.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience as a Controller with at least 10 years of bookkeeping, tax, and accounting experience.
- In-depth knowledge of accounting principles, regulations, and best practices.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and provide strategic recommendations.
- Excellent organizational and leadership abilities, with experience managing an accounting team of 5 to 10 people.
- Proficient in accounting software, particularly QuickBooks, and Microsoft Office, with advanced Excel skills.
- Experience in job costing, WIP, and reconciliations.
- Experience in the construction industry is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the maturity and confidence to interact with executive leadership and diverse partnerships.
- A degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or Accounting is preferred but not mandatory.
Responsibilities:
- Manage all accounting operations, including billing, accounts receivable (A/R), accounts payable (A/P), general ledger (GL), cost accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Prepare financial statements in accordance with GAAP and ensure timely monthly closing of books.
- Develop and monitor budgets and financial plans for the company based on research and data analysis.
- Monitor cash flow, expenses, and budgeting to ensure financial stability, providing timely cash balance reporting.
- Analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
- Ensure compliance with financial regulations and company policies.
- Coordinate and lead the annual audit process.
- Implement and oversee financial systems and processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Prepare consolidated/combined financial reports for multiple entities within the company, including consolidating/eliminating entries.
- Develop simplified monthly summary reports for the leadership team to provide critical insights into company health.
- Supervise, mentor, and collaborate with the accounting staff to ensure a high level of performance and morale.
Skills and Abilities:
- Proficiency in QuickBooks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
- Strong attention to detail and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to adapt quickly to changing environments and manage multiple sets of books.
