Interested in working in the mountains of Colorado? Tatum by Randstad is working with an independent organization looking to upgrade their accounting staff by adding a CONTROLLER.
The Controller is tasked with ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of the company's financial reporting. This role involves the preparation and oversight of financial statements for both internal and external purposes, including consolidated reports. Additionally, the Controller will manage the accounting team and oversee various financial functions, including General Ledger/Fixed Assets, Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, Purchasing, and Grants & Contracts. Government accounting experience is REQUIRED
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and guide the entire financial reporting and accounting process.
- Manage all aspects of the accounting team’s operations, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, scheduling, and disciplinary actions.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, such as GAAP and GASB, while overseeing all accounts and ledgers.
- Actively engage in monthly and annual closing activities, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting.
- Produce detailed monthly and consolidated financial statements for departmental use.
- Oversee the annual financial audit and the closing of yearly records.
- Review and improve business processes and internal controls to strengthen the organization’s accounting policies.
- Conduct annual evaluations of accounting policies to ensure internal controls remain robust and adhere to best practices.
- Ensure the team and organization comply with established policies and procedures.
- Develop and manage the Accounting Office's annual budget.
- Submit and oversee the annual Indirect Cost Rate proposal.
- Oversee member payments and ensure records of these disbursements are maintained securely.
- Safeguard the confidentiality and security of financial information.
- Collaborate with department heads and project managers to ensure they receive accurate financial data promptly.
- Provide training on financial reports and practices to staff members and department heads.
- Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
- Respond efficiently to requests from senior management.
- Perform additional duties as required.
- Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field.
- Active CPA license.
- A minimum of 5 years of accounting experience, including 2 years in a government setting.
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Preferred Qualifications
- 10 years of experience in accounting.
- Knowledge of PeopleSoft financial systems.
- Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prepare detailed reports and present data clearly.
- Capable of explaining financial concepts to non-accountants.
- Competent in analyzing data, identifying issues, and forming solutions.
- Adept in maintaining professional relationships with staff and external partners.
- Strong decision-making abilities and self-motivation.

Base salary range will be $130-$145k, depending on experience
