Purpose/belief statement:
Accounting support is an important function within the organization. The Controller manages the books and records of CommuniCare Advantage ensuring accuracy and timeliness of financial reports. They will also supervise and mentor an Accounting team.
Job duties & responsibilities
- Leads accounting team through monthly close, reconciliations, and reporting
- Responsible for ensuring timely month end close processing and financial statement review and distribution.
- Create and review reports, analyze variances, and distribute to management.
- Review monthly account reconciliations and various accounts payable reconciliations.
- Manages AP relationship with Corporate Services.
- Review and approve GAAP to STAT entries and tracking.
- Directs NAIC Quarterly and Annual Filings information with external partner
- Takes point in collecting support and tracking during various audits
- Other accounting projects and functions as assigned.
Qualifications & Experience requirements
- A bachelor degree in accounting and 5-10 yrs of accounting experience, preferably in a healthcare insurance environment.
- Masters degree or CPA preferred.
- Familiarity with regulatory reporting requirements.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
- Must be knowledgeable in Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), understanding of Statutory Reporting (STAT) beneficial.
- Must have the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant
- Must be able to deal tactfully with team members and managers
- Excellent Excel skills are required
- Workday experience a plus.
- Superior organizational skills, strong task management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks.
- Also important are excellent interpersonal and communication skills with both internal and external customers, and the ability to work in a team oriented environment. A positive attitude, with a high degree of ethics and personal integrity, as well as confidentiality, are traits needed to be successful in this role.
