Job Details
Purpose and Scope
The Controller is responsible for the management and leadership of all finance and accounting operations.
This position will ensure internal controls and methodologies are in place to enable the effective preparation of the budget, financial forecasts and report variances. These accounting policies and procedures will ensure process integrity of day-to-day transactions such as: payroll, AP, A/R, general ledger and cash management, in addition to, the representation of the organization in external audits for Defense Contract Audit Agency (DCAA) and tax audits.
The Controller's key objective is to create, supervise, and manage the financial system, crucial for Cogitic's success as applied to financial strategy and cash management within a challenging-to-manufacture, high mix / low volume, milestone payment business model.
Responsibilities
Objectives
COMPLIANCE: Guarantee precision, consistency, and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
COMMUNICATION: Develop reports, analysis and potential corrective actions to communicate business results to leaders and stakeholders
EFFICIENCIES: Develop, establish and maintain processes, systems and controls to execute robust financial management
GROWTH: Develop potential options to ensure optimal profitability and cash flow
Activities
Evaluate company financial performance activities and offer suggestions for consistent improvement in results.
Use ERP to prepare aggregated project budgets and expenditures to track costs and suggestions to control expenses
Accountability for financial reporting, including full financial statement preparation (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow)
Hands-on, working knowledge with ERP systems
Manages general accounting (A/R, A/P, payroll) and internal controls
Responsible for tax and regulatory compliance
Completes ROI analysis for capital investments (using discounted cash flow methodology), and manages fixed assets and depreciation accounting
Oversees cash/treasury management
Evaluate fiscal choices, monitor expenses, advise the Sales organization on project profitability
Serve as the company's financial advisor, conducting both tactical and strategic financial and business analyses across all functional areas of the organization
Creation of powerful financial analysis instruments and convey the findings, along with suggested actions, to both management and stakeholders with the bigger picture in mind
Guarantee the implementation and efficient operation of suitable internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures
Establish and uphold a documented framework of accounting policies, procedures, and controls to secure precision, consistency, and adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
Collaborate with the President to develop quarterly financial forecasts encompassing revenue, profit, and cash flow. Conduct detailed variance analyses, providing comprehensive explanations for the differences observed
Organize company records systematically to facilitate audits as necessary
Develop and oversee processes, systems, and controls to continuously improve and carry out accounting and finance operations
Guarantee that all designated employees are informed about and adhere to company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations
Verify that accounting records maintain accuracy, completeness, and compliance with relevant standards
Results
Ensure compliance with all applicable financial regulations and customer requirements
Optimized cash management procedures and governance
Leadership governance that straddles the divide between pure accounting and finance strategy
Organizational Relationships
The Controller reports to the President and has support responsibility to upper management.
Required Qualifications
** Education and Training**
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (MBA and/or Masters in Accounting preferred)
Applicable certificates as applied to CPA or CMA exam
Previous experience leading, directing accounting
** Technical Requirements**
Strong organizational and leadership skills
Excellent analytical skills
Exceptional written, verbal and presentation communication skills
In-depth knowledge of accounting and finance
Excellent attention to detail
Excellent knowledge of digital technology
Excellent ability to work as a team
Strong capabilities in organization and time management
Proficiency in effectively planning and executing objectives within set timelines and work schedules.
** Experience**
Minimum 10 years of accounting experience
Prior direct experience in a Progress Billing Environment with cash flow management responsibility
Experience accurately assigning indirect costs (factory overhead) to product costs, including activity-based costing
DCAA Experience strongly preferred
Environment
This role will provide support within a technical engineering environment that can vary from highly dynamic to more typical periods.
