Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for all regular and recurring accounting functions across all divisions within the company from the sale of the goods, through production, to final delivery and sale.
- Review, vet, and train current members of your accounting team. Add to/adjust the members of the accounting team to handle the recurring accounting functions.
- Gain thorough understanding of the industry segments in which the company engages in business and, as importantly, the manner in which the company engages in business in those industry segments – the company is as successful as it is, because of the manner in which it has conducted it business. You will then need to apply your skills and talents to help match the accounting functions with the manner in which the company conducts business by actively engaging with the other executives in the company to develop, implement, and refine both the business and accounting practices to empower the company to continue being a leader in the industry segments in which it engages.
- You will work directly with the CEO on a regular, sometimes daily, basis, to provide her the information, data, and metrics necessary to determine and direct the strategic direction and growth of the company. Able to be forward-thinking, issue-spotting, problem-solving, strategic member of her executive team.
- Work closely with the other executives in the company. At company’s current stage of growth, the accounting department cannot be an unbending, island to it-self. It must be a dynamic member of the executive team, as the accounting practices that are in place and which you will further develop will need to facilitate and aid in the conduct and growth of the business. As part of the executive team, ability to educate and lead the other executives to engage in sound business practices that allow for and facilitate the complete, accurate, and timely collection of accounting information allowing for metrics ultimately needed.
- Develop, implement, and refine the internal controls of the company, consistent with best business practices for similar companies with similar business models.
- Work closely with the CEO and the other executives to develop, implement, and manage a company-wide budgeting process. You and your team will lead this process, alert executives when they are approaching established thresholds, and to provide the regular reports that will allow for timely management decisions to be made.
- Integral member of the executive team for the continued development, implementation and refinement of the enterprise management systems. Understand current systems – why they were chosen, their current state of development/implementation, and where they need to be further developed – to enable the complete, accurate, and timely collection of accounting data and production of accounting and financial reports.
- Working knowledge of the regular, recurring tax collection, reporting, and remittance requirements for the business conducted. Engage in the reporting and remittance, either directly, via the third-party software platforms utilized, or through outside accountants. Functional knowledge of the federal income tax laws and rules affecting the business, to enable you to engage in strategic decision making to ensure the company operates in a tax efficient manner.
- You will work directly with outside accountants in connection with the audit and attest services they provide the company.
- Engage directly, and develop working relationships, with the company’s bankers and other financial providers.
- May ultimately be engaging directly investors and other financial advisors, as the company continues to grow.
- Lead by both example and in your communications and engagement with the other personnel of the company – at all levels.
Technical Qualifications:
- Masters in Accounting or CPA required
- Manufacturing/Distribution/Retail (one of combination of) industry experience required
- Minimum 10 years previous experience as a corporate controller/director of accounting or equivalent, preferred, or significant experience in regional or larger accounting firm in the audit/business advisory sections, with significant engagement with firm clients in all aspects of the client accounting functions
- Significant and in-depth knowledge of a broad range of business software platforms; Financial Force a plus.
- Exceptional written and oral communications skills.
