Overview
The Controller is responsible for directing the financial services functions, under the direction of the CFO. These functions include general accounting, research accounting, budgeting, accounts payable, payroll and purchasing.

Responsibilities
- Oversees the internal reporting and analysis, including reporting financial and accounting information, and will be expected to support many ad hoc reporting requests, analysis, special projects, etc. as received from management
- Oversees research accounting and reporting, including interfacing with BILH Accounting and the Office of Sponsored Research and the external agencies responsible for grant awards
- Supports the annual budget process
- Oversees the payroll and accounts payable function, ensuring that: paychecks are processed accurately and on time and that the required payroll reports are submitted; accounts payable checks are issued in conformance with Joslin policies; and that year end W-2s and 1099’s are issued
- Oversees the Purchasing function ensuring that Joslin is getting all of the discounts it is entitled to
- Oversees annual audit and works with internal/external auditor to update and refine internal controls
- Oversee the preparation of tax returns. Participates in review of returns prior to filing
- Oversees the Insurance program for Joslin, making sure that renewals are up to date and meet Joslin’s needs
- Communicate and work closely with BILH System Services and the VP-Finance on relevant accounting and operational matters
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting
- At least 10 years of experience in the field
- CPA highly preferred
- Public accounting experience highly preferred
- Familiar with a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Strong computer and process analysis/problem solving/analytical skills
- Strong business acumen intuition
- Strong Communication and Relationship skills
- Excellent Leadership, Managerial and Staff Development skills
- Relies on extensive experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals
- A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected
