We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Controller to join our team in the legal industry. This exciting opportunity will allow the successful candidate to utilize their financial expertise in a fast-paced, challenging, and rewarding environment. The role involves overseeing all aspects of financial management, including corporate accounting, regulatory and financial reporting, budget and forecast preparation, as well as the development of internal control policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
As a Controller, you will have a hands-on role in managing the financial health of our organization. Your tasks will include:
1. Overseeing all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
2. Maintaining internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets, and actual expenditures.
3. Consistently analyzing financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of the organization’s financial status.
4. Managing and tracking the performance of invested assets in keeping with policies and investment guidelines.
5. Overseeing all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period.
6. Collaborating with management to develop financial strategies by forecasting capital, facilities, and staff requirements.
7. Preparing and submitting annual tax returns and other necessary documents.
8. Overseeing and managing organizational insurance policies.
9. Overseeing financial management of property assets, ensuring cost-efficient operations.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate for this position has a strong understanding of the financial and operational aspects of a business, with an emphasis on controls, cost, tax, and property management.
1. Bachelor’s degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or related field. An MBA, CPA, or related qualification is highly desirable.
2. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a senior finance role, preferably in the legal industry.
3. Thorough knowledge of financial reporting, tax regulations, and industry legislation.
4. Proven experience in financial analysis and forecasting.
5. Proficient in the use of MS Office and financial management software (e.g., SAP).
6. Strong ethics, with an ability to manage confidential data.
7. Exceptional leadership skills, with a proven ability to manage and develop a team.
8. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present financial data to non-financial colleagues.
9. Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
10. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
