Purpose: The Controller is a strategic business partner that supports and drives the timely and accurate recording and reporting of information to support business-critical decisions and meet required deadlines. They will oversee accounting, financial reporting, taxes, and Controller responsibilities for the entire company, including all gym locations. This role manages, directs, and develops the Accounting and Accounts Payable teams, providing recurring financial information and reporting to all stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepare annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
Is accountable for overseeing the company month-end close process.
Manage and lead responsibility for regulatory compliance, including company-wide tax filings and annual reporting.
Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance and safeguard the company's assets and information.
Develop, improve, and enhance department processes to ensure efficiency and high customer satisfaction.
Manage the annual audit process, including the relationship with external auditors.
Lead and is accountable for the Accounts Payable functions, processes, and performance.
Partner with HR to ensure a timely and accurate company-wide payroll process.
Work directly with internal departments in various capacities.
Create and present reports and financial data as needed.
Maintain accounting department budget.
Successfully manage and support high-volume AP department.
Manage company tax function requirements.
Manage, oversee, and contribute to AP processes, design, improvements, and administration.
Provide additional support and financial information/records as requested by other teams.

Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Finance, Accounting, or another relevant quantitative field of study required; MBA preferred. Equivalent related work experience or combination of experience and education may be considered in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
At least 10 years of progressive Finance/Accounting experience, with previous Controller experience, required.
At least 5 years of experience managing, directing, and developing an accounting team required.
Earned designation as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) strongly preferred.
Experience creating, implementing and/or improving processes and best practices.
Experience integrating acquisitions.
Strong understanding and knowledge of financial and management accounting principles, practices, standards, laws, and regulations, including US GAAP.
Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Products, especially Microsoft Word and Excel.
Experience with franchise/multi-unit operations is strongly preferred.
Ability to manage competing priorities and prioritize.
Critical thinker and problem-solver.
Strong mathematical aptitude with experience and proficiency in working with numbers.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey information to internal and external customers in a clear, focused, and concise manner.
Ability to function effectively and positively within a team environment.
Ability to maintain confidentiality.
