We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Construction Controller to oversee our financial operations and ensure the integrity of our financial reporting. This pivotal role requires a strong financial acumen and hands-on experience with accounting software, particularly Foundation. The Construction Controller will play a key role in maintaining compliance with GAAP and regulatory reporting requirements while providing insightful financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management: Oversee all aspects of financial operations, including general ledger accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and collections.
Reporting and Analysis: Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, reports, and analyses to support strategic decision-making and provide insights to senior management.
Work in Process Report: Assist the CFO with the preparation of the Work-In-Process report, ensuring reconciliation to the General Ledger and conducting related job-level analysis.
Budgeting: Maintain and analyze accurate budget reports, providing insights on progress toward financial goals.
Change Orders: Supervise and maintain the entry of change orders and related budgets in accounting software.
Compliance and Taxation: Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including use tax returns and multi-state agency regulations. Assist the CFO with information requests for compliance and government audits.
Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate and improve financial processes, systems, and controls to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor accounting staff, providing guidance, training, and professional development.
Ad Hoc Projects: Participate in special projects and initiatives assigned by the CFO, using financial expertise to support business growth.
Internal Controls: Maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (MBA preferred).
7+ years of accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or senior financial management role within the construction industry.
Strong knowledge of job cost accounting, construction billing, and percentage of completion accounting methods.
Proficiency with construction industry software (e.g., Foundation or similar).
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to convey complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
Exceptional attention to detail and a strong commitment to accuracy and meeting deadlines.
In-depth knowledge of tax regulations, financial reporting standards, and compliance requirements.
