Controller / Accounting Manager - Vander Hyde Mechanical Inc

Vander Hyde Mechanical, a family-owned business situated in Northwest Grand Rapids, is looking for a driven Accounting Manager / Controller who is eager to enhance operations and play a key role in our growing company!

Vander Hyde Mechanical is a growing leader in the residential and commercial Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical trades and has proudly been in business for over 35 years!

Duties/Responsibilities:

• Oversee all accounting functions.
• Establish internal controls, guidelines, and processes for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
• Manage tax planning throughout the fiscal year and file corporate tax forms with federal, state, and local government agencies.
• Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
• Provide financial analysis with a focus on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
• Present recommendations to management regarding short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
• Assist outside auditors by gathering necessary account information and documents for the annual audit.
• Prepare financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and profit and loss statements.
• Maintain knowledge of accepted accounting practices and procedures.
• Reconcile accounts, verify deposits, and address inquiries from banks.
• File required quarterly and annual reports.
• Prepare prevailing wage employee benefits and complete certified payroll.
• Oversee 401(k) plan and retirement plan tax filings.
• Perform other related duties as necessary or assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills.
• Proficient in accounting and tax preparation software.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
• Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Excellent attention to detail.

Education and Experience:

• Bachelors degree in Accounting or Business Administration required.
• Ten years or more of related accounting experience required.
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license preferred or interest/ability to obtain it.

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
• Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.

Schedule: In-office, flex schedule Monday - Friday

Job Type: Full-time, Salary

Salary: $80,000-$110,000
