They maintain 1,400 miles of buried water mains which have 9,800 valves, over 80,000 water meters and automated reading devices, nearly 10,000 fire hydrants, 10 water storage tanks, and 10 booster pumping stations.

Under the direction of the Water Production Maintenance Manager, this Control Systems Specialist will maintain and troubleshoot industrial automation control equipment. They'll utilize technical software for design, analysis, coding, testing, training, and implementation of control and data systems.
JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Design and maintain industrial control systems to recognized standards such as: NEC, NFPA, OSHA, and UL 508A.
- Communicate and work in conjunction with maintenance and operations personnel in diagnosis and repairs of equipment. This includes performing preventative, normal, and emergency maintenance (and inspecting water treatment equipment).
- Installs, modifies, and maintains regional-wide telemetry and fiber systems for booster stations and other remote facilities.
- Utilizes AutoCAD, Visio, and other software in control system design.
- Writes code and configures applications for Human Machine graphical interfaces such as Wonderware, IO servers, WEB portal, Insight, PanelView, RS View ME, etc.
- Configures SQL database for plant historian (Industrial SQL server). Creates/modifies data reporting systems.
- Configures, maintains, and updates the hardware and software for the Client, Historian, and Backup servers for the SCADA system.
- Develops Programmable logic controller (PLC) code for industrial control applications use RSLogix and other advanced programming software.
- Creates, modifies, and maintains industrial networks to include Ethernet, ControlNet, DH+, DH485, RS 232, DF1, Remote I/O, MOD Bus, etc.
- Prepares or modifies technical documents and control descriptions for new or existing processes.
- Develops communication strategies utilizing radio servey, GPS, and path study information.
- Installs, programs, maintains, repairs, and trouble-shoots control equipment such as motor controllers, variable frequency drives, soft starts, valve actuators, and microprocessor-based control equipment, etc.
- Installs, calibrates, and repairs online analytical equipment at multiple water treatment plants (three) to meet DNR/EPA requirements.
- Performs water chemistry tests, as required, to calibrate or test water quality monitoring equipment.
- Preparation of required reports, daily logs, timesheets, and work orders as well as maintaining a file of technical manuals, drawings, schematics, history of repairs, and changes to systems.
- Receives, interprets, and responds to two-way radio, telephone, and other communications for routine and emergency situations.
- Operates company vehicles and equipment in a safe manner.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of industrial automation/electronics, PLC programming, repairing, testing, and maintaining control related equipment.
- Experience with data radio transmitters, HMI/graphical user interface software, digital & analog controls, and motor control circuitry using VFD, Softstart or contactors (480V, 4160V) is preferred.
- 2 year accredited program for industrial automation/electronics preferred but not required
- Iowa DNR Grade 1 Water Treatment License is preferred
- Iowa Electrical Examining Board Journeyman Class A or Class B Electrician License or higher is preferred
- MUST possess a valid Iowa Driver's License with good driving record.
