POSITION SUMMARY
As a member of the Design Engineering group, the Control Systems Engineer collaborates within a cross-functional team to undertake the design, debugging, characterization, production release, and ongoing support of rectifiers, converters, and inverters for industrial power conversion systems, ensuring adherence to electrical design specifications. The scope of work encompasses cutting-edge power conversion equipment ranging from 3.5 kVA to 250 kVA. Key responsibilities include analyzing and simulating power electronic circuits, designing and refining closed-loop control algorithms and software in C, and conducting extensive laboratory experimentation to validate and enhance control functionalities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
▪ Design, develop, and implement control algorithms and software for power electronics including rectifier, converter, and inverter circuits
▪ Perform Testing, verification, and troubleshooting of control algorithms and software on power conversion hardware
▪ Develop specifications and requirements of the control software related to the electrical characteristics of the power conversion equipment
▪ Document the algorithm and software development process within software tools
▪ Document laboratory testing process along with testing results in standalone written reports
▪ Develop and improve validation plans for evaluation of the control software within the power conversion equipment
▪ Integrate the control software with the other software functions of the power conversion equipment
▪ Stay informed on the latest theories, techniques and technical developments related to control systems
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
▪ BS Degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited school. (MS preferred)
▪ 3-5 years related experience in power electronics engineering applying control systems theory
▪ Skilled in control system theory and its applications including system modeling and simulation
▪ Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills at the control loop level and the power conversion equipment system level.
▪ Solid understanding of advanced power electronics topologies
▪ Experience with pulse width modulation (PWM) schemes. sinusoidal PWM and space vector PWM
▪ Experience with power conditioning schemes. Nonlinear, unbalanced, harmonic compensation
▪ Proficient in power electronics modeling and simulation tools. (LTspice, MATLAB, Simulink, PSIM)
▪ Familiarity with TI DSPs
▪ Experience in developing control systems for MCU and DSPs in C programming language ▪ Understanding of communication protocols. (SPI, CAN, I2C, Modbus TCP/IP)
▪ Experience with software management systems and software version control tools. (GitHub or GitLab)
▪ Familiarity with test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power analyzers, and spectrum analyzers
▪ Familiarity with low voltage distribution systems: single phase, split phase, and three phase up to 600VAC and frequencies from 50 to 800 Hz
▪ Basic understanding of PCB design tools such as Altium, PADS, EAGLE or KiCAD
▪ Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively across multiple disciplines
▪ Take personal responsibility for complicated design/development and see the task or project to completion
