About the Role
A longstanding leader in steel manufacturing seeks a Control Engineer to join its Richmond, VA facility. This role is ideal for a technically skilled engineer with experience in challenging industrial environments. The Control Engineer will oversee the automation, troubleshooting, training, and continuous improvement of electrical/electronic equipment and systems in a steel manufacturing setting, with temperatures that can reach up to 160 degrees.
Key Responsibilities
- Automation & Programming: Program and maintain PLCs, develop ladder logic (Rockwell and Siemens S7-1516), and troubleshoot automation issues.
- System Oversight: Supervise electrical systems, motors, drives, and related equipment, ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Identify and resolve issues with equipment, automation, communication, and HMI.
- Continuous Improvement: Collaborate with production and maintenance teams to optimize processes and improve equipment reliability.
- Documentation & Training: Provide training and support to maintenance personnel, maintain software backups, and lead research and development for electrical/electronic systems.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics or Electrical Engineering preferred, or 10 years of relevant experience in lieu of degree.
- Experience: 3-5 years in a manufacturing environment, preferably with exposure to PLC programming and troubleshooting.
- Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of AC/DC controls, motors, drives, and PLC communication protocols (Profibus, Profinet preferred).
- Software Skills: Proficiency with MS Office and data acquisition software (IBA/PDA preferred).
- Work Environment: Comfortable working in both office and industrial settings.
