About the Job
The firm is seeking an experienced healthcare litigation attorney for engagement through the firm's alternative-track contract attorney and staffing program. The selected contract attorney will work with the Healthcare practice group defending healthcare providers and institutions in complex legal matters.
The chosen resource will assist the firm's Healthcare practice group with managed care litigation and arbitration matters, with minimal supervision and direction. Attorneys based near offices in Sacramento who can work on a hybrid basis are strongly preferred. Attorneys based near offices in Culver City, Los Angeles, or San Francisco, who can work in the office as needed and attend in-person hearings as needed in San Diego, Sacramento, and LA, will also be considered. Attorneys who are seeking more flexibility are encouraged to apply.
This contract position will be 25 hours per week, with the possibility of increasing to 40 hours per week. We are looking for attorneys interested in establishing a flexible working relationship with the firm. While the engagement is for an initial 6-month contract term, successful candidates may be renewed for additional terms, potentially, depending on the volume of work.

SALARY RANGE:
The hourly compensation rate for this role in CA is $120 to $160 per hour. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate's education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full-time contract attorneys may be eligible for health insurance, vision care, 401(k), and paid sick leave.

- 5+ years of litigation experience in a mid-to-large law firm or in-house setting.
- Represented hospitals and providers in disputes with health insurance companies.
- Residency and active bar admission in California, with a strong preference for those in the Sacramento area.
- Experience drafting pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents.
- Experience participating in discovery processes, including depositions, interrogatories, and document production, with proficiency using legal software tools like Relativity.
- Understanding of arbitration rules and proceedings.
- Experience analyzing complex statutes and regulations and advising clients on risks and opportunities thereunder.
- Preferred but not required: Knowledge of reviewing claims and medical records, including medical insurance coding.
- Ability to attend court hearings, trials, and mediations as required.
- Ability to work on a hybrid basis and work on-site in the Sacramento office strongly preferred. Alternatively, candidates with ability to work on a hybrid basis in other CA offices will also be considered.
- Availability to work 25 hours, with the potential to increase to 40 hours per week.
