HSS needs to improve customer service while improving profitability and free cash flow by eliminating waste in all operations. HSS must develop leaders who can engage and lead their teams in utilizing HBS lean manufacturing systems and waste elimination techniques. HSS will develop these leaders in the HSS HBS LFP, increasing leadership bench strength and developing leadership succession planning within our organization.
- Participants develop deep understanding of principles and application of HBS lean system, tools and techniques.
- Participants demonstrate ability to drive sustainable improvement by implementing HBS lean systems through engagement of team in targeted area.
- Participants secure operations leadership position in operations following graduation from HSS HBS LFP
- Participants deliver value through application of lean knowledge and implementation of standard lean systems in leadership roles after graduation.
Accountability Objectives
Program Summary:
- An (18) Month Program consisting of; (6) months of academic learning/coaching/teaching on location with a coach present, (6) months of application "learn by doing" on location without a coach present 100% of the time, and (6) months of practical consulting activity at a consulting engagement under account manager direction.
- Learn and develop a deep understanding of HBS (Howmet Business System), and TPS (Toyota Production System), including:
- Because ongoing training is critical to develop expertise, HSS HBS LF participants will undergo technical training and be required to teach courses at HSS CLE COE (Center of Excellence). The Lend Forward will be required to teach some of the following classes (determined by development plan, business needs, and opportunity):
- This program is conducted over several months with multiple experiences to tie the learning's together. This program creates a "learn by doing" environment.
- Each participant will have a Sponsor (linked to targeted post-program position)
- Reporting and Accountability
- Weekly Reporting - LF will report weekly progress and following week plan on standard format to LF coach and Sponsor.
- Monthly Reporting - LF will create a Statement of Work (SoW) for assigned projects and report monthly progress against the SoW to LFP Coach, Sponsor, Project Lead, Plant Lead, Ops Director, Ops VP.
- Gate Review in standard format at program milestones (6-month, 12-month, 18-month, 24-month). LF presents to LFP Coach, Sponsor, Peers, Ops Directors, Ops VP.

Working Conditions
This position involves moderate exposure to risk of accident and requires following basic safety precautions. Work is normally performed in a typical interior work environment. While not regularly exposed to hazardous materials, this position requires wearing full PPE to protect from mobile equipment and hot materials when on the shop floor.
This position requires minimal physical activity, such as walking, standing, and sitting for extended periods of time, as well as engaging in all motions necessary to perform 5S duties.
