Who We Need
Emancipet is looking for a pet-loving, creative, and strategically-oriented individual to help share our mission and impact as the Content Marketing Strategist. As a network of non-profit vet clinics, founded in 1999, with clinics in Austin, Houston, Killeen, and Philadelphia, we are on a mission to make vet care affordable and accessible for everyone.

Job Summary:
The Content Marketing Strategist (CMS) role is a critical part of our marketing and communications team. The role is responsible for marketing channel oversight - website, social media and email marketing - adhering to Emancipet’s developed marketing, brand and content strategies - ensuring timely and consistent messaging to the appropriate audience. From planning a roadmap to daily implementation, this role will create and share content on all Emancipet channels resulting in brand cohesion and consistency across all forms of communication. The CMS project manages, and implements marketing plans under the direction of the Senior Director of Marketing and Brand to ensure brand awareness, donor engagement, clinic visitation goals are met, adhering to the budget goals, and key results set by Emancipet.
You’ll be responsible for:
- CONTENT PLANNING AND IMPLEMENTATION:
- Content Roadmap: Manages content calendars and ensures timely delivery of content across all platforms. Analyze content performance and update content regularly to align with strategy adjustments.
- Manage Freelance Videographers and Photographers: Develops relationships with a network of freelancers to capture content to share the Emancipet brand with donors, clients, stakeholders and the community. There may be a need for minor edits to content but position is not expected to edit major video projects.
- Story Capture: work with a team of freelancers to capture stories from Emancipet clients for use in communications and fundraising. Reaches out directly to clients for permissions and additional details as necessary. Manages a story bank and identifies content for audience and channel.
- MARKETING CHANNEL MANAGEMENT:
Daily implementation of Emancipet content (images, graphics, video copy) on all channels ensuring consistent brand messaging and visuals across marketing channels.

- Website: owns routine daily website updates for clinic services, events, sponsor additions and more; responsible for recommending continuous user experience updates to the website; works alongside SDMB and website development vendor for upgrades and/or troubleshooting of the website; manages any web emergencies through resolution. Writes, edits and schedules blogs. Works collaboratively with Development Associate to get forms and develop landing pages for each digital fundraising campaign, ensuring all donations are trackable and provide the donor with an outstanding user experience when making an online donation.
- Email: writes and develops content for email marketing. For implementation - at hire this position will take over the project management of the email marketing program with Emancipet’s agency vendor; with future plans to transition email marketing in-house. CMS ensures all legal requirements are adhered to keep Emancipet in good standing in email marketing platform. Pulls reports and tracks metrics of campaign emails, open rates and click through rates. Responsible for implementation of welcome series and other automated customer journeys (working with agency) and list segmentation within email software. Works collaboratively with Development Associate to be sure contacts are synched with email marketing software from database. Maintains up to date client email lists in collaboration with Emancipet clinic services group.
- Social media: Develops and manages social media campaigns and day-to-day content in alignment with the content roadmap; manages KPIs and reshares/responds to messages and comments. Manages influencer relationships. Manages Emancipet’s BrightLocal account and oversees reputation management. Manages paid social media advertising in-house or with vendors as needed.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT:
- Works independently and in cross-functional groups on a variety of strategic communications projects that require creative problem-solving and concept development adhering to Emancipet’s broader marketing, brand and fundraising strategies.
- OTHER MARKETING DUTIES:
- Assists with writing, proofreading and editing for other Emancipet content including digital materials, letters, grants, funding requests and marketing materials to ensure a consistent brand voice, correct spelling and grammar.
- Serves as brand steward by adhering to identity guidelines established by the Marketing team, providing brand training to colleagues as needed.
- Supports the Emancipet marketing team with administrative tasks as assigned.
Travel & Workplace:
Remote/Hybrid in Austin, Texas; Houston, Texas; or Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Home office with expected travel to our administrative headquarters in Austin, Texas, regional clinics, and events.
You’ll need to have:
- 3+ years of experience in content marketing with a portfolio to share
- 2+ years working in nonprofit marketing and/or fundraising
- You must be a storyteller and have the strategic vision and ability to tell stories, from beginning to end, across our different channels and to our different audiences.

- Social justice mindset: we believe all people love their pets and will do what’s best for them when given the opportunity to do so. Our storytelling is not reflective of the mainstream narrative that people are doing wrong by their pets. We want to bring people in, provide educational resources, and help transform the narrative out there.

- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills
- Independent director: you will oversee freelance contract photographers/videographers and direct them to capture the content that you will need to make your stories come to life.
- Excellent time-management skills
- Occasional evening/weekend availability
- Attention to detail and commitment to delivering transformative service
- Software experience with Content Management Systems including WordPress, email marketing software, Sprout Social (or similar) and project management software (Basecamp) and Google Suite.
- Knowledge of and familiarity working in Google Analytics, Tag Manager etc.
- An understanding (or willingness to understand) that the inaccessibility of veterinary care has deep and tangled roots in other complex social problems like poverty, racism, and economic inequality.

Compensation & Location:
Salary range is $72,000 to $82,000
