Tahoma Global Logistics (TGL) is seeking qualified candidates for our Container Repair Technician position at our port facility located in Tacoma. This position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of shipping containers to ensure they meet customer and industry standards for use. This role involves inspecting containers for previously estimated damage, performing necessary repairs or modifications, and ensuring all work complies with safety and regulatory requirements. The technician will work with various tools and equipment to repair structural issues, replace damaged components, and restore containers to their proper working condition. The technician will work outdoors in a container yard setting and will coordinate closely with other team members to ensure safe, efficient, and high-quality repairs.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Excellent attendance for all scheduled shifts
- Perform thorough inspections of containers to locate previously estimated damage or wear, including structural issues, corrosion, and defects in components such as doors, seals, floors, and walls
- Complete repairs on containers, including welding, painting, sealing, and patching to restore containers to their proper working condition
- Replace worn or damaged parts, such as hinges, seals, gaskets, and flooring, to restore containers to their proper working condition
- Use welding and fabrication techniques to repair or reinforce metal structures, ensuring that containers meet safety and industry standards
- Accurately document all repairs made including materials used; maintain detailed records for future reference and compliance purposes
- Follow all safety procedures and protocols while repairing containers, including wearing proper protective equipment (PPE) and adhering to company and industry safety standards
- Ensure that all repairs are completed to a high standard, meeting company requirements, IICL (Institute of International Container Lessors) standards, and regulatory guidelines
- Maintain and properly use repair tools and equipment, ensuring they are in good working condition for safe and effective use
- Work closely with the MNR admin, estimator(s), depot admin and depot team to ensure accurate communication, and that containers are repaired efficiently and according to the estimated repair schedule
- Provide feedback on container condition or repairs needed to MNR admin and estimator(s); provide technical advice or guidance on repair feasibility and costs when needed
- Identify opportunities for improvements, identify potential areas of risk, and promptly share critical business information with key stakeholders to maximize results throughout TGL
- Coordinate effective teamwork and use all company resources efficiently to promote superior financial results for TGL; maintain TGL equipment and assets to maximize return on investment
- Establish and maintain effective business relationships with all employees, vendors, business partners, government/regulatory entities, and communities in which we operate
- Strictly enforce workplace safety measures; safeguard the welfare of all employees, guests, visitors, and business partners at all times; promptly report workplace risks, incidents, injuries, and near misses; consistently wear and utilize all required PPE
- Maintain confidentiality regarding all sensitive and proprietary business information and safeguard TGL assets at all times
REQUIREMENTS:
Minimum
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid drivers license and good driving record
- 18 years or older
- 6+ months experience in container repair, welding, and/or a related trade
- Good knowledge of container inspection standards, such as IICL-6, ISO container standards and knowledge of container components, location codes, repair codes, tolerances and repair practices
- Ability to accurately read and interpret ECTS estimates and work order documents.
- Skilled in using repair tools and equipment, including welding machines, power tools, and hand tools
- Ability to problem solve, effectively multi-task, and manage competing priorities to meet deadlines
- Excellent troubleshooting skills, high attention to detail, and accuracy in executing tasks
- Excellent time management skills and ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision
- Works well in a highly team-focused environment, with good written and verbal communication skills in English
- Good interpersonal skills; able to maintain a positive work attitude and demeanor
- Culturally sensitive and works well with the full diversity of our company and community
- Ability to transport self over multi acre work site of varied terrain and climb in/out of equipment
- Ability to work non-standard hours to accommodate business needs, including nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to pass background check
Preferred
- IICL Inspector Certification and/or lift truck experience
- Any similar industry education/training/certifications
- 2+ years container repair work experience
