POSITION SUMMARY:
The Construction Supervisor role at Ocean State Job Lot (“OSJL” and “Company”) is responsible for supervising a team of Construction associates and/or outside contractors while training associates in all aspects of construction. This hands-on role assists, leads and supports the team as they complete projects in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Pre-construction:
- Set a construction schedule and coordinate with the Senior Manager of Facilities and Maintenance if problems occur.
- Review construction documents and blueprints to understand the scope of the project, identify potential challenges, and ensure all materials and equipment are specified correctly.
- Ensure all necessary permits and approvals are in place before construction begins.
- Develop and follow a safety plan, outlining the specific safety procedures that will be followed on the job site, as well as how to identify and address potential hazards.
Construction phase:
- Monitor progress and quality. Ensure that the project is progressing according to the schedule and that the quality of work meets the required standards. This often involves regular inspections and communication with workers.
- Oversee all onsite contractors and communicate issues to the Construction Project Manager and the Senior Manager of Facilities and Maintenance.
- Resolve problems and conflicts, troubleshooting problems, making decisions, and resolving conflicts between workers or subcontractors.
- Maintain accurate records and reports. Keep track of all aspects of the project, including labor hours, material usage, and safety incidents. This information is to be used to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and meet reporting requirements.
- Complete daily assignments and projects in a timely, safe and efficient manner.
- Order all materials and stock to maintain the construction schedule.
Post-construction:
- Conduct final inspections and verify punch list items have been addressed.
- Finalize project paperwork, obtain final approvals, and hand over the completed project to the owner or tenant.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 10 or more years of experience in the construction industry is required.
- 5 or more years of supervisory experience is required.
- Ability to read and comprehend blueprints for all trades is required.
- Ability to operate all types of power and hand tools is required.
- Knowledge of wall assembly is required.
- Carpentry, Drywall, Acoustical ceiling experience is required.
- Hands-on skills in various construction trades are required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and Google platform (i.e. Sites, Slides, Drive, Docs, Sheets) is preferred.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
- While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions. The associate is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, or electrical components. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
- Work may be completed outside of the company locations. The role is responsible for setting up a professional and ergonomically safe work environment and to be available during working hours. While working remotely, the role will be required to have reliable Internet connection.
- Moderate travel throughout OSJL store and office locations in various states. Much of this role’s work is in a remote environment.
- Overnight and weekend assignments may be required.
