About the Job
What you will be doing:
- Manage multi-discipline engineering projects from planning and procurement through start-up and construction.
- Assist business development efforts.
- Review proposed contracts to determine significant parameters, time schedules and mileposts and define the major task areas.
- Manage the inspection and testing personnel on multiple projects including QA/QC testing. Coordinate and schedule activities in the field, including the maintenance of all field equipment.
- Resolve problems and coordinate the final turnover of the project to the client, as the principal contact with the client throughout the entire project.
- Direct the planning and development of the project scope, procedures, and budget.
- Coordinate all client contact, including correspondence between the company and the client and maintain working relationships at all levels throughout the period of the project.
- Ensure contractual commitments are met and the work is being performed according to the client's instructions.
- Maintain effective relationships with members of all divisions and departments responsible for performing services in connection with the project.
- Review and approve all major change orders and periodically review change order controls to determine their adequacy and whether change orders are current and adequate.
- Control and/or review all project forecasts, schedules, cost estimates and reports. Responsible for quality control over the complete project.
- Monitor fees and budgets, report problems to the appropriate Department and Division Managers.
- Conduct periodic client meetings to review progress and discuss construction and engineering changes to project. Conduct kick-off and in-house progress meetings.
- Prepare or direct the preparation of progress and special reports to staff and clients.
- Maintain project files. Obtain client's acceptance of work, coordinate completion of final project paperwork and preparation of final report.
- Review and address health & safety concerns on projects assigned.
- Work with the accounting department to keep billings and receipts current and accurate.
- Be actively involved in civic and professional activities, societies, and organizations.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Our ideal candidate has:
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other relevant degree
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT), Professional Engineer (PE), Certified Construction Manager (CCM) or Project Management Professional (PMP) preferred.
- Experience managing and inspecting City of Columbus and/or ODOT projects a plus.
- Experience managing horizontal and/or vertical construction projects, developing CM/CI budgets, creating pay estimates, change orders, etc.
- Construction materials testing and inspection experience is preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Must have the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, e-Builder, LMIS
- Valid driver's license and willing to use personal vehicle for job related work, as needed.
- Ability to visit and safely traverse construction and project sites and complying with all applicable safety codes and requirements
