Job Summary:
As a Construction Materials Engineer, you play a crucial role in ensuring the quality and safety of construction projects by assessing and verifying the properties and quality of materials used in construction. Working under the supervision of a Licensed Engineer, you will coordinate field explorations, field logging of soil samples, performing engineering calculations/design, preparation of proposals and reports, and project and client support.
- Construction materials testing: Conduct testing and observe special inspections of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, and other relevant materials, to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
- Reviewing construction plans and specifications: Ensure alignment with project objectives before field observations.
- Documenting and managing field activities: Record detailed observations and testing results during project execution, utilizing MetafieldĀ® and/or other management systems daily for efficient data management and coordination.
- Report and proposal preparation: Assist in drafting reports and proposals for small projects, ensuring thoroughness and accuracy in assessments and documentation.
- Maintaining daily communication: Engage with management, contractors, and clients to ensure project transparency and provide regular progress updates.
- Design and Analysis: Make preliminary engineering recommendations and solutions by reviewing and analyzing design plans and data to ensure optimal project outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, or a similar engineering field
- A minimum of 1 year experience in construction materials testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt
- Engineer in Training (EIT) license or on track to obtain
- Good math and communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment:
- Working outdoors in varying weather conditions outside normal business hours, as needed
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain, maneuvering field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Traveling out-of-town and possibly overnight for assignments as needed
