Construction Manager
STARTING SALARY: $88,601.00 - $103,790.00 Salary/year
Description
The City of Wentzville is seeking a Construction Manager to oversee major construction projects, ensuring they are completed safely, on time, and within budget. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in managing employees, contractors, and projects, as well as a deep understanding of construction safety standards and regulations.
Responsibilities:
- Project Management:
- Oversee all phases of construction projects, from planning and budgeting to completion.
- Develop and implement detailed project schedules and timelines.
- Monitor project progress and identify potential risks and issues.
- Coordinate with architects, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure project success.
- Team Leadership:
- Manage and lead a team of construction professionals, including engineers, technicians, and field workers.
- Hire, train, and develop team members to optimize performance.
- Motivate and inspire the team to achieve project goals.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Enforce strict safety protocols and regulations on all job sites.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and training sessions.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
- Budgetary Control:
- Develop and manage project budgets.
- Monitor expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Track project profitability and generate financial reports.
- Quality Assurance:
- Implement quality control measures to ensure project standards are met.
- Conduct regular inspections to identify and rectify defects.
- Ensure adherence to project specifications and design standards.

Qualifications
Job Qualifications – Education, experience, and training that are required or desirable in order to effectively perform the job at the time of hire. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements and/or substitutions may be requested and require the approval of HR.
- A bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field is required.
- Additional experience in the field may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in Civil Engineering, Public Works, Construction, or a similar work environment is required.
- Additional job-related advanced degrees or certifications may be considered in lieu of experience.
- Experience with large-scale public infrastructure projects is required.
- A valid driver’s license is required.
- A Missouri Professional Engineer License is preferred but not required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities – May be representative, but not all-inclusive, of those knowledge, skills, and abilities commonly associated with this position.
- Thorough understanding of public infrastructure for both construction and maintenance of streets, sidewalks, traffic signals, storm sewers, sanitary sewers, and water distribution infrastructure.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, hydrology, water quality, wastewater treatment, and water resources.
- Working knowledge of the city’s policies, municipal code, engineering design criteria, standard specifications, and construction details.
- Up-to-date knowledge of industry construction trends.
- Proficiency in use of basic business software (word processing, spreadsheets, email, presentations), software adopted by the City for daily functions (e.g., Paycom, MinuteTraq, and SmartGov), AutoCAD, Bluebeam and ArcGIS software, as well as basic knowledge of office equipment and machines.
- Ability to lead, monitor, and supervise employees to achieve goals that contribute to individual and organizational success.
- Ability to make quality decisions that impact the team and direction of project work.
- Ability to plan and organize work, analyze and solve problems, and prepare and support comprehensive reporting.
- Ability to provide exceptional service to internal and external customers.
- Ability to manage and monitor division operations and services and implement procedural changes as needed to improve workflow and productivity.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with supervisors, subordinates, co-workers, and customers by telephone, in writing, and in person.
- Ability to develop goals and plans to prioritize, organize, and accomplish work for self and others, as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
