Taper, powered by Ecology Action, is dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas emissions at scale by making energy efficiency easy for large commercial businesses. We provide energy savings solutions to large commercial customers by brokering multi-site projects between utility funded incentive programs, installation partners, and equipment vendors. Taper is a wholly owned B-Corp subsidiary of Ecology Action; it's nonprofit and single shareholder.
About the Role
The Construction Manager is responsible for overseeing multiple projects focused on Electric Vehicle Charging (EV-C)/energy/refrigeration/water efficiency, ensuring that Taper meets safety, budget, and technical goals. They gather project details, create specifications, manage budgets, and schedule installations. Acting as the company's field representative and customer advocate, they solve problems, maintain communication, and manage project lifecycles. This position is responsible for safety and risk management, implementing safety programs, ensuring contract compliance, and monitoring project quality. Frequent travel to project sites is required.
What you'll be doing
- Technical Oversight and Management
- Supporting project execution from preconstruction to completion, focusing on Safety, Compliance, and Customer Experience.
- Supporting project schedules, conducting regular reviews with contractors to ensure adherence to safety, specifications, timeline, and customer expectations.
- Managing the safety, quality, and pace of work through remote oversight and site visits as needed.
- Coordinating site visits with utility incentive program representatives.
- Conducting preconstruction and post-construction meetings and audits, monitoring ongoing work progress.
- Leading and manages onsite construction teams/subcontractors.
- Conducting preconstruction kick-off meetings and safety "tailgate" sessions with contractors.
- Reviewing project schedules, budgets, technical specifications, and quality standards to ensure compliance.
- Monitoring onsite safety compliance, cleanliness, and orderliness.
- Developing corrective action plans for subcontractors and ensures resolutions are implemented.
- Instilling the importance of optimal customer experience with onsite teams.
- Managing project records including audits, photos, drawings, as-builts, and field reports.
- Consulting with inspection authorities regarding permits and approvals.
- Previewing projects and project sites to assess safety risks.
- Visiting active project sites to assess ongoing work conditions and safety compliance.
- Working with project management teams, field workers, and subcontractors to develop and implement safety-related solutions.
- Documenting non-compliance of employees and subcontractors with safety standards.
- Technical Oversight and Customer Support
- Working with internal and external technical resources to monitor and verify project specifications.
- Assisting with contract reviews, including subcontractor agreements and customer contracts.
- Managing and communicating change orders with customers, contractors, and Major Account Sales.
- Working with Major Account Sales or technical support services to review and approve change orders for final customer invoices.
- Providing post-installation site inspections, assisting customers with post-installation warranty support, and providing final project summary forms.
- Receiving and responds to 24/7 Call Support communications, resolving issues and escalating when necessary.
- Assisting in developing company safety programs for employees and subcontractors.
- Team Support and Development
- Mentoring team members, providing technical guidance and training.
- Monitoring and evaluating technical performance and providing constructive feedback.

What We're Looking For
- A minimum of 2 years' experience in one or more of the following areas: Construction Management, Project Management, Energy Efficiency, Energy Audits, or Building Performance.
- Experience in two or more of the following areas: specifying energy-efficiency measures, installing energy efficiency measures, managing subcontractors, working within customer established supply chains, creating Scopes of Work and/or BOMs, managing a large volume of projects.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be qualifying.

- Good recordkeeping abilities – Must be able to maintain good records of all safety related activities.
- Ability to access heights via ladders, scaffolding, and lifts.
- Field trade experience. Refrigeration or HVAC a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to travel to customer sites up to 75% of the time.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of Lighting, HVAC, and Refrigeration Systems.
- Experience and working knowledge with electrical and mechanical systems.
- Working knowledge and understanding of electrical schematics related to commercial and industrial facilities as well as single line diagrams, distribution voltages and systems.
- Experience scheduling and managing a large volume of projects.
- Prior experience in negotiating, planning, and prioritizing production schedules.
- Familiarity with CRM systems and/or project management software

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and distance vision.
This position can be hybrid (home/office) or remote and regular travel of up to 75% is required.
