About the Job
Main responsibility of this position is to perform full project estimating functions. Integrate as part of the full construction team to spearhead project bidding. This Estimator should include diverse experience with all facets of construction, both vertical and horizontal. General responsibility for efficiently estimating the operations of one or more construction projects. Previous Federal experience is a plus. This job is located in Springfield, MA with geographical coverage of New England.
- Monitor online sources for project leads
- Ability to analyze, interpret, and understand project plans, specifications, and solicitation documents.
- Ability to determine scope requirements and determine resources
- Evaluate subcontractor’s proposals for scope accuracy
- Prepares and estimates budget costs for construction
- Works closely with architects and other professionals
- Independently schedules meetings with clients, subcontractors, and staff
- Up to date with safety requirements and building codes
- Proficiency in performing takeoffs and contacting multiple sources for pricing and quotes
- Ability to handle multiple projects at once with proven track record of meeting milestone and bid due dates
- Comprehensive understanding of task duration's for labor estimates on all facets of construction
- Maintain proficient estimating files within company server to transfer to Project Management Team upon award
- Prepare all estimates in solicitation required format for submission
- Ability to present final bid proposal to internal company staff for concurrence on submission
Key competencies:
Must be prepared to take initiative with little direction with excellent time management skills. They must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel and Word. They must be able to use the formula functions and generate a spreadsheet for estimates. Experience with estimating software is highly desirable. Ability to interact with Project Managers and Superintendents to ensure a thorough understanding of General Conditions. They must be able to take contract documents, break them down, and generate a spreadsheet which will total out the project cost. In order to accurately estimate the project’s general conditions, the project duration must be determined. Basic schedule generation knowledge is required. Be detail oriented. Ideal candidates will be well spoken with the ability to communicate effectively and clearly.
