Purpose of Position
Client Optical Communications
Department: Engineering Services
1. They will travel daily. Expectation is they will report to the warehouse in Eynon, PA .
2. They will visit the project sites in the field as required.
3. Long term vehicle rental is encouraged. (COC) Engineering Services (ES) department needs an experienced Construction Dispatcher to join our Project Services (PS) group. The successful candidate will be responsible for outside plant fiber optic projects for major customers, primarily in the eastern US. This position is based in Scranton, PA that will support a large aerial fiber optic build. Candidate must be able to the office site and job sites as needed. The position primarily covers Fiber-to-the Home (FTTH) projects including SFU (single family), MDU (multi-dwelling), and FTTB (business) projects from design to test and turn-up. Ideal candidate must be able to work behind a desk and on a job site as needed.
MAJOR ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assign construction crews, vehicles, and equipment to appropriate project locations based on daily schedules and immediate needs.
Monitor crew availability and ensure efficient utilization of resources.
Coordinate and assist with vendor material pickup at warehouse location
Serve as the primary contact point for field personnel, project managers, and clients to address scheduling concerns, delays, and updates.
Communicate with drivers, crew leaders, and supervisors regarding job assignments, changes in schedules, and any potential issues.
Resolve scheduling conflicts and coordinate with other departments to address logistical challenges.
Utilize Sitetracker to track crew locations, project progress, and equipment status.
Maintain accurate records of work orders, job assignments, and crews.
Generate reports on project schedules, potential delays, and resource utilization
Identify potential scheduling issues and implement solutions to minimize delays and disruptions
Respond to unexpected situations like equipment breakdowns, weather changes, or personnel absences, making necessary adjustments to schedules
Collaborate with project managers to address project challenges and ensure timely completion
Executes the schedule with vendors onsite.
Confirms proper materials are released with the warehouse and confirms the warehouse crew is working to support the construction crews.
Provide input on material consumption and needs.
Defines the project/jobs for the Construction Inspector (CI) to inspect.
Fields vendor's questions/issues and coordinates with others to solve problems.
Escalate vendor issues/concerns to leadership
Initial review of the QC checklist and production reporting.
Review drawings and specifications to become completely familiar with the project and identify long lead times and critical path items.
Review/Consolidate daily reports outlining construction progress on all installations located in the assigned area of responsibility.
Communicate with vendor site superintendents about delays and any other issues that must be communicated to clients.
Participate in daily/weekly/monthly meetings to offer input to help drive project completion utilizing project data.
Update project data in Sitetracker
Assemble the close-out documents for customers. Attend pre/post-installation meetings.
Education and Experience Requirements
3 years of Telecommunications industry experience
3 years of OSP telecom construction dispatch experience
AAS, BA or BS degree in relevant studies desired
Required Skills
Strong interpersonal skills to support customer interface, consultative activities, and work as part of a commercial team.
Proficiency with dispatching software and computer applications
Knowledge of construction practices, project management principles, and safety regulations
Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment
Read and understand FTTX (fiber to the home) work prints
Working understanding of fiber optic network architectures
Knowledge with Microsoft Office products: Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook
Strong organizational skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to handle rapidly changing priorities
Attention to detail with focus on error-free work
Sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills
Ability to maintain composure and professional demeanor at all times
Work well in a team environment
Result-oriented and responsive; utilizes network, SME's and other available resources to facilitate driving tasks to closure
Willingness to work outside of normal scheduled business hours when necessary
Fluent in English
