The Construction Coordinator (CC) position in the filter team coordinates and oversees water treatment capital projects, from construction stages through acceptance of the installation, testing, startup, and close of the project. This position will work closely with department managers, operations staff, and engineering personnel. As a specialist in filtration system startup and operation, this position will be expected to obtain and maintain necessary well operator certifications.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES: (Primary Duties and Responsibilities)
- Collaborates with operations and engineering in optimizing treatment designs, cost estimating, and project scheduling of filter and advanced water treatment projects.
- Oversees construction activities to meet established budget, scope and timelines through site visits and electronic communications (phone and email).
- Ensures that Aqua specifications are met and operational needs are addressed.
- Assists with construction project procurement, including reviewing and approving contractor applications for payment with the project manager.
- Oversees construction inspectors for multiple concurrent projects.
- Represents the company at various state and local levels and maintains positive public relations with customers, local officials, state regulators, other stakeholders.
- Assists in the development and the implementation of state/regional engineering-related policies and maintain standard designs and materials specifications.
- Assists in reviewing construction plans for filtration systems including, but not limited to, granular activated carbon (GAC), ion exchange (IX), and greensand filters.
- Maintains and updates the database for system warranties and maintenance schedules for filter assets.
- Promotes a safety culture that encourages employees to put safety first and address safety issues arising from construction project with the appropriate internal teams, up to and including moving project timelines to ensure safe working conditions.
- Assists with other tasks or projects as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS (Required Experience, Education, Licenses, and Certifications)
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent required. Associates Degree or higher is preferred.
- Minimum of five years of experience in the utility industry is required.
- North Carolina C-Well Operator License or greater is required, candidates with the ability to obtain the License within six months of the hire date will be considered.
- Construction experience is desired, including construction cost estimating, monitoring construction progress, negotiating change orders, construction inspection and monitoring safety practices, and contract closeout.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: (Examples below)
- Proficiency with personal computers, particularly Microsoft Office products and databases, is required.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills; communicate effectively (clearly, concisely and professionally)
- Ability to work well under pressure
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
- A team player able to work effectively in a multi-tasking, collaborative environment
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- May be subject to extreme temperatures, elevated heights (ladders), small spaces, noise, wet and/or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dusts, mists, gases and/or poor ventilation conditions.
- Working conditions include travel to work sites of Aqua North Carolina and/or other constituents
- Travel Requirements up to 75% local travel, this position is provided a work vehicle in accordance with Aqua’ s Vehicle Policy; overnight stays are typically not required but possible
