Accounting Manager/Controller – Construction Industry (Mechanical/Plumbing/HVAC)
A leading mechanical design and contracting firm specializing in commercial and industrial piping, plumbing, and HVAC projects is seeking an experienced Accounting Manager/Controller to join their growing team. Key Responsibilities:
- Financial Oversight & Reporting: Manage all aspects of financial accounting, including preparation and presentation of financial statements, general ledger entries, and account reconciliations
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Collaborate with project managers and leadership to prepare detailed budget forecasts, cash flow projections, and variance analysis to ensure financial performance aligns with project goals and company objectives
- Cost Control & Analysis: Oversee the tracking of job costs, ensuring accurate allocation of resources and expenses, and implement strategies to optimize financial performance
- Payroll & Benefits Administration: Supervise payroll functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing, as well as managing employee benefits and compliance
- Internal Controls & Compliance: Establish and enforce internal controls to ensure financial accuracy, integrity, and compliance with industry regulations and company policies
- Team Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and manage the accounting team, fostering professional growth and maintaining high team morale
- Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, senior leadership, and external auditors to ensure financial accuracy and support decision-making processes
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA a plus, but is not required)
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting, financial management, or controller roles, with a preference for construction industry experience
- Strong knowledge of construction accounting principles, including job costing, work in progress (WIP), contract billings, and change orders
- Familiarity with union contractor accounting practices is a plus
- Proficiency in financial and ERP software such as ViewPoint Vista and Spectrum
- Experience with payroll processing, tax filings, and compliance in a construction setting
- Solid understanding of GAAP and accounting regulations applicable to the construction industry
- Strong leadership and communication skills to collaborate effectively across teams and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base Salary + Bonus: $120,000 - $140,000 + performance-based bonus
