Struction Solutions, a veteran-owned small business, is dedicated to supporting housing recovery efforts through program management of HUD CDBG-DR-funded construction projects. We are seeking a Construction Advisor to provide expertise and guidance to homeowners navigating the rebuilding process.
Position Summary:
The Construction Advisor will assist homeowners in planning and managing their construction projects, guiding them from initial planning stages to project completion. This role involves offering advice on contractor selection, repair prioritization, and ensuring compliance with program policies and procedures.
Responsibilities:
Homeowner Support:
- Guide homeowners through project planning, including funding identification, budgeting, and understanding permitting requirements.
- Assist in contractor selection by providing resources for evaluating qualified contractors and avoiding fraudulent practices.
- Help homeowners prioritize repairs for efficiency and long-term benefits.
Construction Oversight:
- Monitor and track the progress of construction projects, ensuring all work aligns with program guidelines.
- Provide technical guidance on scopes of work, cost estimates, contracts, and change orders.
- Facilitate inspections and review completed work to confirm quality and compliance.
Program Expertise:
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of HUD CDBG-DR program policies and ensure compliance in all advisory activities.
- Communicate program options, timelines, and requirements effectively to homeowners and contractors.
Administrative Duties:
- Document and track project milestones, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
- Assist in managing day-to-day project management tasks as directed.
Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (or three years of relevant experience in place of a degree).
- At least three years of experience in housing recovery, construction management, claims adjusting, or a related field.
- Preferred experience with HUD CDBG housing programs, FEMA hazard mitigation, or related initiatives.
- Familiarity with residential construction, including interpreting plans, analyzing cost estimates (e.g., Xactimate), and managing contracts and change orders.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel, and the ability to quickly learn new software tools.
