The ideal candidate for this position should have more than 10 years of experience and will have responsibilities including the operation, surveillance, and troubleshooting of natural gas compressors and related equipment. Candidates must be able to assist other technicians, respond to callouts, and work on weekends as needed. The position is based in Roswell, New Mexico. Relocation is available.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following may be part of the job role. Other responsibilities may be assigned. To be successful in this position, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily.
- Prioritize safety for themselves, colleagues, contractors, and the public
- Conduct scheduled preventive and corrective mechanical service on gas compression units
- Enter and validate compressor readings and downtime
- Monitor the condition of equipment by analyzing compressor/engine temperatures and pressures
- Diagnose and troubleshoot engine/compressor failures accurately and efficiently
- Perform necessary rebuilds/overhauls of compressors, engines, and controls on gas compressor packages either in the field or in a shop
- Conduct all assigned tasks in a professional manner.
- Submit accurate maintenance reports, timesheets, and other necessary paperwork daily
- Maintain communication with management
- Ensure all equipment is in a clean and presentable state
- Complete any additional tasks as delegated
Skills/Capabilities/Education:
- Strong knowledge of machines, tools, materials, methods, and tools involved in repairing compression units
- 10+ years of relevant experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of one year in a vocational/technical training or apprenticeship program is preferred but not required
- Self-motivated individual capable of working independently and efficiently with little or no supervision
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety guidelines, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
- Capable of adapting to changes in the work environment and managing competing demands
- Ability to identify and solve problems in a timely manner
- Mechanical intuition or ability
- Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills
Conditions:
- Overtime or non-traditional working hours may be required
- Must be comfortable standing or walking on uneven terrain, climbing stairs and ladders, stooping, squatting, or crawling depending on the task at hand
- Exposure to extreme temperatures, weather conditions, and varying environments on a case-by-case basis
- High noise levels (>85 dB) will require ear protection
- Possible controlled exposure to hazardous chemicals
- Safety is a top priority regardless of site conditions
Physical Demands:
As part of this job, the employee may use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and communicate orally. Standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling may also be required. Lifting up to 10 pounds is regular, up to 25 pounds is frequent, and up to 50 pounds is occasional.
Additional Qualifications:
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- Must have a valid driver's license and a good driving record
- Competent in MS Office Products (Excel, Word, etc.)
Job Type:

- Overtime and weekend availability required
- On-call work may be needed

Compensation:
- $35 - $45 per hour based on experience.
