POSITION SUMMARY
The Human Resources Compliance Specialist will ensure Cogir Senior Living adheres to all federal, state, and local employment laws, focusing on California-specific human resources compliance priorities. This role will address challenging compliance areas, including wage and hour laws, employee relations, documentation, and policy adherence, to minimize risk and support a positive work environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor and ensure compliance with California wage and hour laws, including overtime, meal and rest break requirements, pay frequency, and accurate timekeeping processes.
- Audits of payroll and timekeeping records are conducted to identify discrepancies and ensure legal adherence, including auditing for meal and rest break penalties and regular pay rates.
- Collaborate with HR and operational leaders to develop and implement corrective actions where necessary.
- Work with the VP of Employee Relations to review, update, and implement HR policies and procedures to align with California-specific employment laws, including AB5, sick leave, harassment prevention, and wage transparency.
- Educate managers and staff on policies to ensure understanding and compliance.
- Audit employee files for compliance with recordkeeping requirements (e.g., I-9, personnel files, and training records).
- Assist with internal HR investigations to address compliance concerns, ensuring thorough documentation and resolution.
- Support reporting requirements for regulatory agencies and ensure timely responses to audits or inquiries.
- Stay informed of changes in California employment laws and regulations that impact HR compliance.
CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- A bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field is required.
- HR certifications (PHR, SHRM-CP) preferred or equivalent experience.
Experience and key competencies:
- At least 3-5 years of experience in HR compliance, preferably in California and/or a multi-site environment
- Strong understanding of California wage and hour laws, employment regulations, and HR best practices.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and provide training
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and HRIS systems;Paylocity experience preferred.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
- Strong interpersonal skills in collaborating with HR teams and operational leadership.

WORK SETTING
- In-office, Monday to Friday - Corporate office in Scottsdale, AZ.
- The position may require limited travel, up to 10%.
