POSITION SUMMARY
The Compliance Coordinator ensures the implementation of the Craig Hospital Compliance Plan. Under the supervision of the Compliance and Legal Officer (CLO), the Compliance Coordinator develops and performs risk assessments and audits to assure compliance with federal and state laws, regulations, and Craig Hospital’s mission, vision and values. The Compliance Coordinator serves as the Research Integrity Officer, and has oversight of research related to misconduct and investigations.

Rate of pay: $31.90 - $45.94 per hour based on experience
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Licensure/Certification/Registrations:Compliance certificate preferred through the Health Care Compliance Association or willingness to obtain within one year of employment.
- Education:Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in a related field required, preferably healthcare, regulatory or compliance.
- Experience: 4-7 years of experience required. At least 2 years of healthcare specific experience preferred, or other highly regulated industry.
- Skills & Abilities:Possess substantive research and/or regulatory compliance knowledge and a desire to increase knowledge and skills in research compliance by participating in internal/external educational events and conferences. Excellent organizational, communication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrates understanding of how to administer a compliance program including conducting audits and investigations, maintaining compliance policies and procedures, and developing and conducting compliance education and training. Strong working knowledge of healthcare compliance and privacy laws, regulations, and guidance. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and confidentiality. Possess above average problem-solving skills, judgment, and flexibility. General knowledge of extracting information from database systems. Strong computer skills with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications. Strong working knowledge of healthcare compliance and privacy laws, regulations, and guidance. Able to maintain a high degree of accuracy, dependability, and confidentiality. Possess above average problem-solving skills, judgment, and flexibility. General knowledge of extracting information from database systems. Strong computer skills with excellent skills in Microsoft Office applications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Review and test compliance with institutional policies and procedures, applicable laws, and regulations through the examination of physical clinical and business processes, retrieval and review of documents, and investigation of irregularities and errors.
- Design and regularly update aspects of the research compliance programs, which include but not limited to the following areas:
- Research Compliance Committee: Organize and manage the Research Compliance Committee, to coordinate policy/process improvement, risk mitigation, and interdisciplinary communication between Craig’s research stakeholders (Business Office, Research Department, and executive/board-level committees).
- Research Policies and Procedures: In collaboration with research department leadership, ensure all research policies and procedures comply with current regulations and adhere to industry best-practices. Review and update policies and procedures as needed, in collaboration with department leadership and organizational stakeholders.
- Research Training and Education: Develop robust training & education processes for all investigators and research staff to ensure ongoing compliance with federal and state regulations and institutional polices.
- Research Monitoring and Auditing: Design monitoring and auditing objectives and risk management initiatives, and assure appropriate mitigation and/or correction of detected deficiencies.
- Research Integrity Officer: Serve as the Research Integrity Officer for Craig Hospital, responding immediately to any concerns of research misconduct. Lead the inquiry and investigation process for any allegations, and prepare any necessary reports to OIG, sponsors, and/or other parties as required.
- Assist in the development and execution of work plans, risk assessments and dynamic hospital-wide annual auditing & monitoring plans. Compile information and/or prepare reports and analyze, communicating results with appropriate recommendations to senior leadership.

- Facilitate an effective compliance communication and education program, including a) promoting use of the compliance hotline, b) increasing awareness of standards of conduct, and c) providing education for new and existing compliance issues and related policies and procedures;
- Provide assistance and information, including periodic progress reports, to the CLO and the Corporate Compliance Committee.
- Thoroughly document all compliance matters as appropriate for the situation and in accordance with legal compliance and organizational policies and procedures.
- Track and trend compliance-related issues in order to assist in allocating department resources related to auditing, monitoring, investigations, and process improvement initiatives. Present such information to hospital and board-level Committees at regular intervals to assist with executive decision-making.
- Assist the CLO in the implementation and maintenance of the Hospital’s compliance and privacy policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties necessary to help achieve the goals of the Compliance Plan.
