In your role (Level I or II), you will provide care for animals, including enrichment, training, facility cleanliness, health checks and administration of medication ensuring compliance with regulations and interal procedures.

Below are the respective 2024 pay ranges for the progressive expierence levels:

• Tech Level I:  $20.83 min. to $29.77 max
• Tech Level II: $24.10 min. to $34.46 max

The Department of Comparative Medicine (DCM) is service-oriented department which is responsible for the care and well-being of multiple species of research animals.  

Technicians are responsible for the health and welfare of research animals, maintenance of a clean and safe facility, and provision of technical support when requested by the research staff.

The DCM staff works together to provide excellent care for the animals; maintain compliance with all regulations, internal policies, and standard operating procedures; and ensure adherence to the high standards required for continued AAALAC accreditation.

The  Technician’s primary responsibilities include all aspects of animal care including husbandry, enrichment, training, facility cleanliness and maintenance, cage and cage component processing, health checks, and administration of medication. Level I technicians may assist with project support procedures such as anesthesia recovery or administrative tasks as assigned by the Director or Supervisor.

Requires flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

Education:

Bachelor of Science or a Certified Veterinary Technician is preferred. A High School diploma or GED is required.

Experience:

Level I: Minimum of 6-months to one-year of experience working with animals is preferred, but not required.

Level II: A minimum of three years of animal technical experience is required for this position.

Skills: 

Ability to work in a team setting as well as independently.

Good verbal and written communication skills. 

Ability to follow detailed verbal and written instructions. 

Excellent observational skills.

Ability to maintain accurate and thorough records. 

Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).  

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to perform a variety of physical functions including frequent squatting, twisting, reaching, and bending.
