USGBC California Community & Events Coordinator
This position supports the U.S. Green Building Council California (USGBC-CA’s) member engagement and community management leading the statewide Green Building Movement. As our Community & Events Coordinator, you will help to grow our membership program, coordinate regional and statewide events, and support robust Committee and Chapter engagement. You will help implement, diversify, and expand our membership and member engagement, including execution on member related content and events. This position is slated to begin in January 2025, located in the Bay Area, and will be an integral part of our USGBC-CA team reporting to our Community and Events Manager.
IDEAL CANDIDATE:
The ideal candidate is passionate about sustainability as a tool to drive cultural change, and experienced in connecting people to mission via community engagement. They are eager to promote green building practices and engage with our community, are innovative yet detail oriented, flexible, social, and are very comfortable with online management tools.
TASKS:
- Identify and engage with existing and potential members across the state, pairing interests with available opportunities and events.
- Facilitate USGBC-CA’s Volunteer and Mentor programs, inspiring, matching, and curating relationships in our member base.
- Ideate, refine and execute an ongoing member engagement strategy which includes committees, chapters, and regional leadership advisory boards.
- Champion committee co-chairs and support meetings by procuring resources and encouraging engaging agendas.
- Support diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts to expand the member base, including equitable access and representation to speaking roles, leadership, events, and training.
- Coordinate members-only events such as mixers, tours, networking events, etc.
- Equip Committee leaders and Regional Leadership Advisory Board (RLAB) members with event planning resources, such as event master sheets, submission forms, budgetary guidance, and venue guides.
- Assist the Regional Leadership Advisory Board members with organizing events and monthly meetings, maintaining agendas, meeting schedules, and pertinent notes.
- Coordinate events with Committee leaders and RLAB members and execute logistical tasks on behalf of USGBC-CA, such as catering procurement, food and beverage in-kind sponsor outreach.
- Coordinate membership drive campaigns to facilitate new member acquisition.
- Assist with the planning, producing, and execution of USGBC California’s community events such as meetings, tours, panel series, and support with other community and team events including committee events and member meetings.
- On-site and remote support for events to include assisting with video recording sessions, webinars and live streaming.
- Support with the assignment of staff and interns to roles for community needs and event support. Organize and arrange for volunteers as needed.
- Acting as a hub of information - maintain clear and timely communication with both internal and external persons.
- Take the lead on the Environmental Justice Project, managing the process of selecting, awarding, and facilitating the annual grant.
SKILLS NEEDED:
- A minimum of 5 years experience in the workforce, including event planning and production and community engagement.
- Google Workspace, PowerPoint, Word and Excel or similar programs required; experience with task management platforms such as Monday or Notion preferred, but not required.
- Exceptional interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to communicate professionally and efficiently with all levels of management and with community members.
- Ability to lead, inspire, and motivate others.
- Familiarity with event management platforms such as Eventbrite, Swoogo, Cvent, or similar.
- Proficiency with Zoom or other webinar platforms.
- Possesses an open and creative mind, with the ability to contribute to annual strategic planning, collaborate with other departments across the organization and hit membership goals.
- Desire to learn, adapt, and explore new skills, technology, and workflow processes.
TIME COMMITMENT & COMPENSATION:
This is a full-time, hybrid position. Location: surrounding Bay Area. Annual salary range is $60,000-$75,000.
