We're searching for an experienced, innovative leader to take on the role of the Community Development Director. In this executive role, you will oversee the Building, Planning and Zoning, and Utilities Departments, collaborating with key stakeholders to drive sustainable growth and enhance the quality of life for our residents.

- Lead and manage the Community Development Department
- Collaborate with County officials, departments, and external organizations
- Oversee planning, zoning, and code enforcement activities
- Provide expert guidance on land use and development projects
- Foster positive relationships with developers, landowners, and the public
- Bachelor's degree in urban planning and development, community, environment and planning, economic development or a related field
- 4+ years of directly related work experience supplemented by experience in local government; supervisory experience preferred
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent time management and critical thinking skills
- Knowledge of local government regulations and procedures
Other Position Requirements:
- Valid Virginia Driver's License, as occasional job-related driving of personal vehicle and/or County vehicle is required
- Board of Zoning Appeal and Planning Commission certifications preferred
- American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) designation preferred
- Current VA certifications as Combined Erosion and Sediment Control Administrator and Zoning Official/ Zoning Administrator preferred
- Current certification as a Floodplain Manager (CFM) preferred
